I'm really needing help trying to figure out what happened to my most important files, alot of my work was on here and also included portfolio work as a Photographer. I did not see an email letting me know about deleted files until today. I understand my plan was free but what I don't understand is why my files were deleted in the first place. Is there any way to find out why? Also is there any chance I can still recover them even though the email was sent May 29th? Is there a possibility that anything could be recovered? I tried checking solutions throughout the community and have come up empty. My life's work was on there and I already had my instagram hacked back in 2019 doing the same thing. Can someone please help me recovery all my Photography work? Thank you to anyone that's able to help.
Hey there @Queenly - sorry to hear about your deleted files.
It sounds like you might have been over your account's quota limit and this caused the deletions you mentioned as outlined here.
I'm not sure if we'll be able to help much with restoring those files since these deletions happened so long ago, but I'd be more than happy to help as much as possible from my end, so I sent you an email to investigate further with account and file specific information.
Whenever you get the chance, please have a look at your inbox and we'll take it from there.
Thanks!
I just confirmed the email, I'm at a loss for words on how much this really hurts to see them just gone like trash :( I wish there was a prompt instead that had asked which files I would have preferred deleted or a chance for me to download them. This doesn't make me feel like I can trust keeping anything on here, these were my backup from losing the my portable hard drive I had them on originally. I guess it's back to DVD and Cd discs as backup again for me if there's no way to restore files :(

You do get multiple emails and warnings telling you this is going to happen and suggesting you download them if you want to save them.
Its also worth remembering that for important data we really should have multiple backups of key data.
Is it possible the files could be on another machine or device somewhere?
Hey there, @Queenly!
I checked your ticket and it seems our Support team managed to help you restore some of your missing content! 🤩 I was so happy to see that.
Sorry about the inconvenience, and I'm happy to see that your issue is now resolved. If you need anything else, we'll be one post away.
Hi Mark, just wanted to let you know that yes I am aware of having multiple backup. I had flooding unfortunately happening that messed up other hard drives that unfortunately are not recoverable a long while ago. My last portable hard Drive was the one that was lost. Here is an example of a prompt I would usually get from my emails: Attention: Your Dropbox Basic account is full.

We recommend that you take action now to avoid disruption.
The prior email I talked about in my first post was the first email I saw way too late unfortunately and was the first time I saw anything about deleting. Just wanted to clarify any questions, thank you for the reminder and have a great day.
That is great news and thank you so much for letting me know Megan, going to download all to another device as soon as I can.
