I just spent 2 days uploading 250GB of files to share with a colleague. Since they didn't fit onto my internal hard drive where my Dropbox Sync folder sits, I used the Dropbox Backup function.
Now I realise that I cannot share, move or copy files from that Backup to my normal Dropbox folder (using Dropbox on the browser). Does the Dropbox client (Mac) at leaset recognise the backed-up files and skips re-uploading, if I move them from the external drive into my normal Dropbox Sync folder?
Can you suggest a way to share the files in the Backup with someone or at least move the files into a shareable folder without having to upload all of that data again?
It seems arbitrary and not very user-friendly that you can't move files from a Backup to your normal sync folder within the Dropbox site.
Hey @fx360, thanks for taking the time to post to our Community.
I moved your comment to a thread of its own, since the original post was a bit old.
Regarding your query, there isn't in fact a way to share your backup files at the moment.
I do understand where you're coming from, though, and I've made sure to pass your comments about this along to our team.
Also, if you want to move the files to your Dropbox folder in order to share them, they'd need time and storage space to sync to your account.
However, if you don't have enough space, you can add the files in batches and use these steps to free up some space first, before moving on to the next batch and so on.
I know this might not be ideal, but I hope it helps.
