I'm evaluating Dropbox as the primary archive for my professional photography business, and overall I'm very impressed with the platform. One feature that would significantly improve the experience is adding search capabilities directly within the Photos tab.
Currently, I can search filenames and folders from the Files view, but when I switch to Photos I lose the ability to quickly locate images by keyword, filename, folder name, or a specific date range. The only available filters are:
- Starred
- Photos or Videos
- Day, Month, or Year
For photographers and other users with large photo libraries, visual browsing is only part of the workflow. We also need to quickly search for images while staying in the Photos view.
It would be extremely valuable if the Photos tab included:
- A search bar that leverages the same search index as the Files view
- Search by filename
- Search by folder name
- Search by keywords or tags
- Search by specific dates or date ranges
- Additional filters such as file type, camera, lens, rating, or favorites (where available)
This would make Dropbox a much stronger digital asset management (DAM) solution while preserving the excellent visual browsing experience of the Photos tab.
I'd also be interested to know whether improvements to the Photos experience are on Dropbox's product roadmap.
