In Windows, when I right-click a file in File Explorer and choose Copy Dropbox link, the link goes straight to the clipboard. Nothing shows whether it is a view link or an edit link.
Hi @cffcff, this should follow your default link permissions. You can set it to whichever you prefer via dropbox.com → profile picture → Settings → Sharing, then adjust the default link access and permissions.
You can also change an individual link via right-click → Dropbox → Share → Settings, then choose Link for viewing or Link for editing. Let me know if this isn’t the behaviour you’re seeing.
Hi Keith,
Many thanks for the reply, that is good advice!
I had actually found that setting in the end and changed it, so all is well on my side. My idea was more with other users in mind. The quick option Copy Dropbox link in the Windows right-click menu puts the link straight on the clipboard without showing whether it is a view link or an edit link, so unless you already know about the default setting, it is easy to share edit links without realising it. That is what happened to me for quite a while.
A view link as the default for single files, or a small note showing the link type when the link is copied, would help others avoid that.
Thanks again!
Thanks @cffcff , I’ll pass that feedback on to the team. It might help to make it clearer when an edit link is being created or shared, so it doesn’t happen by mistake.
I’ll open the idea up for voting too. If anyone else has feedback on this or tips on how they manage their links, please let us know.
