I manually upload my photos from my iPhone using the Dropbox app and once a batch is uploaded, I manually have to find the same set of photos on the iPhotos app to delete them.
There should be an option to “delete after upload” in the dropbox app.
note: I am not talking about the automated camera upload (sync) option.
