The Dropbox desktop app has a limit on the number of files it can sync to a computer. When I signed in, the app told me "Dropbox can't sync over 500,000 files to this computer" and asked me to choose folders.
But the Selective Sync window only shows the size of each folder, not how many files it contains. Size says very little about file count: in my case, one folder of 77.5 GB contained more than 195,000 files. To find out which folders to leave out, I had to count the files myself with PowerShell, folder by folder.
Before that, the app had stopped syncing for about a week without any clear message, so I did not know that the file count was the problem.
Suggestion:
- Show the number of files next to the size for each folder in Selective Sync.
- Show the total number of selected files and how close it is to the limit, updated as folders are ticked or unticked.
