We had 300+ event speaker presentation files uploaded for an event; majority not naming the files as requested so we can organize for the presentation rooms. If we had the ability to add a couple more custom fields to the upload page that would RENAME the file accordingly that would have saved us a lot of time and stress.
Example of how we’d want to do ours:
*indicates required fields
Field: Full Name* (This exists already and is GREAT for file organization)
Email Address* (Exists already and works well to confirm successful uploads)
Dropdown: session date* (not a calendar, just a regular drop down with dates we list)
Field: session # (they can type any letters or numbers)
Dropdown: Plenary, General Session, Poster…
Checkbox: is this an updated version?
Then we get filenames like:
FullName_9-16_218_plenary_UPDATE.pptx
Unless dropbox can expand the upload page options, we're going to have to resort to trying another third party integration like EZ File Drop or another file storage service option. We’d much rather pay dropbox for a premium feature like this knowing it’s all in their capable hands.
For anyone else needing a solution now: look for an article from ezfiledrop called "how-to-make-a-branded-upload-portal-for-dropbox" (it won't let me post a link here). NOTE: this will not rename the files as I was wanting but, the custom field dropdown values become the folder structure in dropbox. "EZ File Drop reuses folders that already exist, so new uploads go to the right place instead of spawning duplicate folders."
For anyone wishing this was a thing,
please UPVOTE!
Thank you!
