I want my lives to automatically save on DropBox and then when I come to DropBox and download it to my apple products I can still see them as Lives.
I have seen many post over the years on this and I wanted to know if this is even been pick up to be developed. I have not renewed dropbox for a long time as this is the main feature I am looking for. When would this be available?
Hey @Pt08, thanks for posting here.
I've moved your post under this similar idea that already exists.
Feel free to up-vote it and let me know if you have any questions!
@Hannahlike @Pt08 said there have been MANY threads over the years about this, they get locked after a period of time and we more threads get opened, as if this is somehow a new request. The 5 votes here are not representative. There are many more users who want this feature.
I'm a long time Dropbox user who also uses Google to backup photos because I need live photo upload and backup. I'm trying to justify paying for both services and frankly it doesn't make sense. I've love to drop Google and use Dropbox exclusively.
I agree. I would love to stick to Dropbox only as well. Does google now support automatic live pic backup form their phone app?
Yes, the Google Photos app does & has for quite a while. Here's an article from 2016 about it -> https://www.tomsguide.com/us/back-up-live-photos-google-photos,news-22359.html
It would be great to have this in Dropbox. I'm sure there are business and technical considerations, but it's been years & folks at Google, Apple & more recently Nextcloud have figured out ways to offer support -> https://nextcloud.com/blog/nextcloud-coherence-for-ios-a-completely-new-look-live-photo-support-new-image-pdf-viewer-quick-look-option-and-more/
Hi @AskLuigi, I hope you're having an amazing day so far!
I went ahead, and merged your idea into a similar one we have, just to make sure we keep everything neat and under the same thread.
Feel free to upvote the idea too.
I hope this helps!
I would really love to have my live photos saved. I feel like so much of my memories are being stripped away because of the lack of implementation.
Hey everyone, it’s 2023 Amazon, google and Microsoft all support Live Photos. Dropbox wants the leader of cloud storage later Cloud storage is dead last in features and technology, functionality and ease-of-use. They have no intention on improving anything just keeping what’s there working. It’s just a big cash grab at this point save your money and get out while you can.
@Starseed Honestly you make a great point. I’m super disappointed with drop box but the organization and lack of Live Photos has been irritating me beyond belief so I’m going to switch to a different cloud now.
@TaliiBee @Yea it’s really unfortunate, and frustrating to leave. Took a lot of time getting things organized right but it looks like Dropbox is really a cash grab at this point. Who know dropbox probably owned by a competitor or maybe they themselves have a competing product. In any case selling people a leading product then dropping development of said product when the competition is too fierce for their development team to compete seems to be the business model here. Anyone who has stock in this cloud service should also abandon ship before they loose their investment!
Yeah, when I see other posts about how Dropbox can "backup" live photos and Dropbox people offer their "solutions", it is really disappointing. "Saving a live photo" but not being able to view a live photo as it was intended is not a solution. "Backing up" like that throws away a lot of the data in the image file.
Yea Dropbox is a cash grab at this point behind everyone else.
Please save Live Photos as Live Photos not only static ones. It feels kind of stupid.
Hi everyone!
The Dropbox team is currently reviewing this idea. We will share any updates with you as soon as possible.
This idea has been delivered!
Thank you for your support!
Awesome! Can you provide a link to the release notes which includes this feature? ...how should we expect it to work? Will it update older photos or just new ones? How can I verify it's working?
You should be able to find all the information you need about this in this Help Center article.
Hope this helps @miccolis
I’m not sure my original request has been implemented, I have to manually upload every Live Photo as an image in my folders. Why doesn’t it work with the automatic camera upload feature? Or am I missing smth?
I have been trying to get Dropbox to do the right thing for years. They refuse to do what we need as photographers and consumers. One thing you learn from Dropbox is that you will not get the features you want and in their opinion the customer is always wrong! I was literally told they are not a photo backup option from support! The moment I can afford to get a large enough NAS up and running I will definitely be leaving Dropbox after 10 years of headaches!
Because you don’t care at all about what your clients want!
You definitely did not deliver what we asked for! Why is everything with Dropbox slow, time consuming and complicated? Aren’t you one of the first cloud services? Why in the world are you last when it comes to tech and features? Last when it comes to customer satisfaction!
Hey @TaliiBee - thanks for the nudge on this.
As the Help Center article I linked to before outlines, to access this feature, you'll need to make sure your Dropbox mobile app is updated to the latest version while camera uploads aren’t available on the Dropbox mobile app for iOS at this time.
This is marked as delivered but it was not. You can upload live photos but you don't seem to be able to automatically upload them.
Dropbox is pushing me more and more away with their poor support and display of photos. I'm very close to not renewing my subscription.
