Your Dropbox Basic account makes it easy to organise files, manage folder and keep your digital life running smoothly. You’ve probably heard us mention it once or twice …and for good reason.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how to get the most from Dropbox Basic and share simple solutions to some of the most common issues people run into.
When using Dropbox, it really becomes a go-to tool for staying organised and maintaining a clutter-free virtual workspace. As it's part of the day, it’s good to stay ahead of common problems like forgotten passwords, account lockout or files that won’t sync.
Even those of us who work closely with Dropbox (like me) can occasionally hit a snag. The good news? Most issues are an easy fix, and we can get you back on track quickly. I've compiled a list of some inside scoop on a few common problems and how to solve them.
"I Forgot My Dropbox Password"
It happens to the best of us. With so many passwords to remember, forgetting one is nothing to panic about. Follow these five steps to reset your Dropbox password:
1. Go to dropbox.com.
2. Click Sign in.
3. Select Forgot your password? (it's right under the Sign in button).
4. Enter the email address associated with your Dropbox account. (Dropbox will send a password reset link to that email).
5. Open the email and click the link to create a new password. (Follow our password guidelines)
"My Files Won’t Sync"
Oh nothing disrupts your flow like a file that refuses to sync. In most cases, this is caused by an external factor rather than your Dropbox account itself. Try these quick checks:
The first thing I always check is my internet connection. It might sound obvious, but if your connection is slow or drops out, syncing is going to pause. Once you’re back online, Dropbox should start syncing again.
If everything looks fine with the connection, it’s worth giving things a quick restart. Closing and reopening the Dropbox app… or simply restarting your computer can often kick things back into action.
Another thing to keep in mind is your storage space. If you’ve reached your limit, new files won’t sync until you free up some room.
And finally, check how many devices you’re signed into. Dropbox Basic allows up to three devices at a time, and going over that limit can stop syncing from working properly. Signing out of an extra device is usually all it takes to fix it.
I Received an Error Message
If you see an error when trying to share a file, it’s usually because the file no longer exists in your Dropbox. This can happen if the file was deleted or removed by you or someone else who had access.
To restore a deleted file or folder:
1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
2. Click Deleted files in the left sidebar.
3. Select the file or folder you want to recover(You can select multiple items using the checkbox icons).
4. Click Restore (Note: Large restorations may take a few moments to complete).
