A year ago a folder full of photos was shared with me. These are not mine but they count toward my storage quota and exceed my allowed space. If I delete them, will they be deleted from the person that shared them too?
Hey there, welcome to the community @outbacktommy
In short, No, leaving the shared folder from your account does not delete it from the owner or other members.
Alternatively,
Have the person create a "view only" shared link, that way you'll be able to access the file without it counting toward your account. You can read more about that below

To be clear, if you delete the files within the shared folder, they WILL be deleted from the person that shared the folder with you. If you just delete the entire folder like Dell suggested, the files will not be deleted for anyone else.
Make sure you follow the steps he provided to delete the entire share from your account, instead of just deleting the files within the folder.

However, that isnt quite what was asked. If you delete the files without leaving the share then YES it will also delete from the other persons account.
