When I first created my Dropbox account long ago I used my hotmail address. When I now try to log in Dropbox says that my e-mail is xxxx@gmail. com and my files are gone. What to do?

You likely have (had?) two accounts; one with your Hotmail address and the other with Gmail. When was the last time you signed in to the account with your Hotmail email address? If it's been more than a year, the account would have been deleted due to inactivity.
Thanks.
I never had a Dropbox g-mail account but maybe I didn't use it in one year. Does Dropbox delete an account.
Why do they say that I have a g-mail account? But not with my files.

You (or someone) must have created it. Dropbox can't just change the email on your account.
These are some of messages Dropbox sent to my hotmail address. I think they prove that I earlier was connected to Dropbox with my hotmail address.
Hey @ulfthai, would you mind clarifying where you see that you have a Dropbox account associated with a Gmail address?
A screenshot would definitely help! Just make sure to hide your personal info on the screenshot.
Also, when you try to login using your Hotmail address, what do you see?
I have the same prioblem. For many years I signed in with my hotmail account. then I heard about using a gmail signin. Now, I cannot see or use the 95% of my emails which used hotmail.com as an address. Wish I had never heard of using a gmail addresss, and I do not know how to proceed to get back to my hotmail address. at least it worked well for me.
Thank you for any suggestions. [personal information removed per the Community's Guidelines]
Hi @ohgriffith, I’m sorry to hear about this.
How long ago did you log in to Dropbox with your Gmail address?
If you open your Hotmail email address now, are you still getting emails from Dropbox there?
What if you try to reset your Dropbox password from the login page, and use your Hotmail address instead of Gmail? Are you able to access your old account after that?
Hi, just seeing this thread and I am having the same problem as ulfthai. I created my Dropbox account many years ago with hotmail. I can see the shared folder created with my siblings, but I cannot access any of the files (they are able to see the files) there or in my own personal folder.
Hi @PhanD, so your Hotmail account has become a Gmail account, after you login, is that correct?
If not, please clarify exactly what you're experiencing after you login.
