I received a storage limit warning, but my Dropbox account shows 0 bytes used

Question

I received an email from Dropbox saying that my workspace is over its storage limit and that files may be deleted on November 5, 2026.

However, when I check my Dropbox Basic account, it shows “Using 0 bytes of 2 GB”. Standard files, Backup, Replay and Shared files all show 0 bytes.

Could someone please explain which workspace this warning refers to, and whether I need to take any action to prevent files from being deleted?

Hi @XCao, I removed your email for security and privacy purposes.

If the account online shows that it has 0 bytes of data, then this means that this account is empty.

As you received this email, it could be related to a different email address. I know you've already checked this, but please could you try checking the email address again that the message was sent to, and make sure that the spelling is exactly the same.

Note that googlemail.com and gmail.com according to Dropbox are different domains, and thus different Dropbox accounts.

The email was sent to the same email address as the Dropbox account I checked: [Removed as per Community Guidelines]

When I log in using that email address, the account shows 0 bytes used out of 2 GB.

So as far as I can tell, it is the same Dropbox account.

Hi @XCao! Thanks for posting this on our Community.

Is there a chance you received this email about a different Dropbox account?

You can verify this by checking the email address this message was sent to, and comparing it with the email address of your Dropbox account here. Are they the exact same?

If not, you can open an incognito window on your browser and log in to Dropbox with the other email address   instead (you can also reset the password, if need be).

Let me know what you find.
