My Dropbox subscription lapsed and I can't find my files now. How can I restore them?

I am having issues with my files as they are all empty. I let my subscription lapse to a free account and now I cannot locate anything. I need to retrieve some important folders. If I resubscribe, will my files come back or have they been deleted? Can they be recovered?

Hey there, @dap_one! Let me jump in here.

Since the deleted files page and your events page are empty, I would also suggest checking your sharing tab to see if there is anything there.

Also, is there a chance that you have another Dropbox account? When was the last time you saw these files in your Dropbox account online? Also, one more thing: have you received any Dropbox-related emails about what @Mark mentioned above?

Hmm unfortunately it's been a while. Since May or June. There's nothing in the deleted files or events page.

I had a Standard subscription up until Feb of this year.

What do you see at www.dropbox.com/events ?

Can they be recovered?

Probably not - they do send repeated emails to warn you they'll delete data if you are over quota to bring you back under.
