I mistakenly created a new account; how can I access my original account?

Good Morning:

I tried to set up Dropbox on a new computer.

I finally got it installed with the help of a chat using a very nice young guy named Dino.

It seems however, I ended up creating a new Dropbox account because I cannot get to any of my existing files.

I have no idea why.

Now I can't chat with a human anymore either...I get that useless chat bot instead.

Where do I even start to get this problem fixed?

Yeah, Dino taught me that trick when I first contacted you guys and cried that I could't get Dropbox to work.

He was very patient and understanding of my computer illiteracy and we solve the first issue but then I managed to screw it up again and made a new account with a new email address (I have two...one forwards to the other), and when I tried to get a chat happening again, of course it wouldn't let me speak to a human, because the new account didn't have "speaking to a human" privileges.

So I trashed that new account after swearing at it for several hours.

That fixed it...I was sooo PROUD!

Now we're back in business!

All is good with the world again.

Hi there, @implmex, thanks for posting!

The first thing you need here, is the email address associated with your original account; do you know it?

If you do, try to sign in to it first through dropbox.com, to make sure all your files are there, etc.

After that, you can simply sign out of the new account on the Dropbox application on your computer and then sign in with the credentials of your original account.

Follow the prompts and you'll be good to go.

Good morning Everyone:

I found a way to solve the problem.

Since the Dropbox login kept defaulting to the new wrong account I ended up deleting it because there was nothing in it anyway.

That allowed me to get back to the setup page, and download the proper account onto the desktop of the new computer.

I had to reset the password for the proper account because Dropbox refused to recognize the old one...(Yes it was correct...I had it written down, but passwords are the bane of modern existence and whoever invented them needs to be forever condemned to having them fail whenever they log into anything)

All is good now, I can access the proper Dropbox account on the new laptop...the new password is written down in the little black book, and I live in hope all goes smoothly forever.

Just wanted to check in with you.

It sounds like you were able to fix everything, which is awesome!

Web browsers can offer to save a username and password to auto-fill the page in future.

That's configured in the web browser (not Dropbox), so if you run into anything like that, a good tip is try in a different web browser, or a new incognito or private tab, where such auto-fill features will be turned off by default.
