Hi,
I am hoping someone from the Dropbox team can advise me here.
In March this year my files were deleted from my account. I did receive notification emails beforehand, but a filter in my mailbox sorted them away and I never saw them. I only discovered today that everything is gone. My Deleted files folder is completely empty, so there is nothing for me to restore from the web interface.
The account held many years of files, but my main concern is the family photographs – around 10–20 years of them. I have no other copy. I had trusted Dropbox as my long-term storage, which is why I never kept a second backup.
My father died four years ago, and the photographs of him were in that folder. They cannot be replaced. That is the part I find hardest to accept, and it is why I am asking rather than simply giving up.
My questions:
- Once files are removed this way, does the data still exist on Dropbox's side for any period – in backups or under a longer internal retention than what a user can see?
- Would upgrading to a paid plan give access to extended version history or a longer recovery window that could help in a case like this?
- If a staff member is able to look into my account, I would be very grateful – please let me know and I will send any details you need by private message. I would rather not post account information publicly.
I am willing to pay for recovery if that is an option. Any advice, from staff or from anyone who has been through something similar, would mean a lot.
Thank you.
