Most of my files were deleted more than 30 days ago. How can I restore them?

I recently discovered that almost all my Dropbox files disappeared.

My Activity log shows hundreds of entries saying "Dropbox Server deleted..." on March 27–28, 2026.

I did not intentionally delete these files. The deletion affected years of work, including SketchUp projects, 3ds Max files, photos and documents.

Unfortunately, I discovered the problem after more than 30 days.

Has anyone experienced the same issue?

Was Dropbox able to investigate or recover the files?

I would appreciate any advice or if a Dropbox moderator could escalate this case for a technical review.

Hi @Anelvic! Thanks for your post.

Are you, by any chance, on a free Dropbox Basic account that was previously over-quota? If yes, then this is most likely the reason why your files were deleted.

Before the deletions occurred, Dropbox should’ve sent you multiple emails, in order to notify you.

If it’s been more than 30 days since the files were deleted from your Dropbox account, I’m afraid that there isn’t much that can be done, unfortunately.

However, you can definitely search your computer, in case there’s a copy of these files locally on your device.
