Can I install the Dropbox desktop app on two separate Windows accounts?

Hello,

I have all of my dropbox files synced from the cloud to my hard-drive. It's a 2nd drive I have rather than my main drive. I use my own Windows account account.

My question is.... can my wife log in via HER Windows user account and also use the same dropbox account and the same files on our '2nd drive'? If she logs into dropbox with the same details as me but via HER Windows user account, can she just point dropbox to the 2nd drive as per me? ie. it wont try and start downloading everything again.

Hi there @simbravo - thanks for using Dropbox and happy Friday!

Even though this should be possible, I'd advise against it as it might lead to data conflicts and security issues. Note that sharing an individual Dropbox account (and its credentials) is against the Dropbox ToS.

Have you considered upgrading to the Dropbox Family plan and add her as a member or even using a shared folder instead?

We don't share a dropbox. She just uses some of my files within it at times.

So the question remains... and for arguments sake... let's say it's just me who accesses 2 different Windows accounts.

Can anyone answer without using 'might'? I'm looking for definite wording.

To add on to what Walter said, just DON'T use Selective Sync or Online-only, at all. This configuration is just asking for trouble with potential data loss.

You've have two separate instances of Dropbox, each with their own database and configuration, accessing the same set of files. It's not meant to work like that. Data loss HAS occurred for people that have done this. Are your files really not that important to you?
