Dropbox asks users to create an account to access their shared links

Question

When sharing a file to a person with a Dropbox account, they are forced to log in to view the file - annoying and unnecessary but can live with that.

When sharing a file with a person without a Dropbox account, they are forced to create an account to view the file. WTF?

Is this everyone else's experience - or just me?

Right now I am looking at Dropbox alternatives as this is unacceptable.

If you close the cookies and “Sign in with Google” banner at the top part of the page, are you seeing any options to ignore the sign up prompt and continue to the Dropbox website directly?

If you’ve shared a link with a user that has no Dropbox account, they should still be able to access it indeed without creating a new account of their own.

Feel free to send me one more screenshot of what you see after dismissing those banners.
