Upgraded my account and now I have multiple versions of Dropbox in my account.

Hello,

After upgrading my subscription from monthly to annual payments, I suddenly have multiple versions of Dropbox in my account. I've found that I can't delete any of them without deleting all of them. How do I merge them all back into one? Windows 10 desktop

I would download a screenshot, but this page won't allow it.

I'm not sure I'm entirely on the same page as you.

When you say you have "multiple versions of Dropbox in your account" can you clarify, and let me know what you're talking about?

Do you have multiple versions of a file, or something different?

As for the screenshot, have you tried clicking on the camera-like icon, when responding back to us here? It should look something like that:

Hi,

I have at least 6 folders on my computer called Dropbox. Each claims to be a subfolder of the other. I can't merge them, and I can't delete one of them without deleting all of them. I only want one Dropbox. What do I do?

Hey @Chemist867, thanks for replying back!

If you check the app's preferences, and specifically under your Sync tab, you should be able to find where your actual Dropbox folder is located.

Based on the screenshot, I'm assuming it's the one above dropbox.cache.

If you open your Dropbox folder, do you see more as sub-folders there?

It's not the one in the screenshot. Here is the path to the syncing Dropbox. C:\users\***\Dropbox\PC\Desktop\Dropbox

There is one Dropbox within the syncing Dropbox.

I just see the 2 Dropboxes shown in that path.

Hey @Chemist867, can you please send us a screenshot of the C:\users\***\Dropbox\PC\Desktop\Dropbox path as it appears on your end?

Just make sure to hide the username in the screenshot.

The Dropbox folder that's higher in the hierarchy, does it contain any other folders/files?

All of the Dropbox folders have many files and subfolders.

I'm not sure what you want to see in the screenshot. See the screenshot below.

Thanks for the screenshot, @Chemist867.

Things are indeed a bit complicated, but let's see how we can go about fixing this.

So, the first thing you'll need to do is move the syncing Dropbox folder to a completely different location, like your Documents folder or directly under "Users\[name]\".

You'll need to use these steps to move it.

Once the move is complete, you can go ahead and look in the other Dropbox folder, move things around, so that every file you need is in the syncing Dropbox folder.

When you're done with the cleanup, you can delete whatever you don't need or move it wherever you want.

Now, it does look like you might have a folder named "Dropbox" inside the syncing folder, but once you move the top syncing folder somewhere new, you can be sure that this subfolder is probably a copy or something.

So again, you can move out/up anything you want from there and/or delete/rename it to avoid confusion.
