I need to save my Android photos to Dropbox directly as .jpg not .jpeg.

Hi all,

As of a few days ago I finally figured out a great solution to my workflow by using an Android phone to take my pictures directly into Dropbox as Android creates .jpg file extensions which is the only extension a few of my other online systems accept. After checking the process again yesterday, I noticed that right clicking on the image to get the direct link now produces a .jpeg extension in the URL and is now unusable. This literally happened within a week of me figuring out the perfect flow. Now, I am back to square one sadly. I am hoping someone out there knows the answer.

Also, whenever I try to look at a direct link now, I get an Error (401)

Can you please clarify how you're obtaining these links and on which Dropbox platform?

And how are you then using the links? Do you share them with other people?

I am going to Dropbox on Chrome or Firefox on a Mac. I click on the file so that it brings up the preview then I have to right click on that image to get the direct link to the image. A couple of days ago it was giving me
.jpg, but now it is giving me .jpeg! Very frustrating. Especially considering the original file is .jpg. I need these direct links so I can put them in some of my venues which I list items on the bandwidth is extremely low so I don't see why it would be a problem. Also, when I paste that direct link as it is now into another browser that I'm not logged into it will not allow viewing of the image, it comes up with an error says something like you're not supposed to be here or something. See my previous image.

Thanks for the additional info, @DropD.

The thing is that the URLs of the files that are saved in your Dropbox account, won't work for previewing the files on other browsers.

The URLs can only work for the browser you're signed into at the time.

If you want to share these files, would our shared links feature work for you?

I was able to give a direct link to ABE books and it worked great literally last week though. Was there a policy change in the last few days? I can send you the listing to that book and you will see my image on there. Their system doesn't allow for gallery linking or embedded linking that the share link creates. Not being able to send direct links is really problematic because that's the whole point of life is having a direct link to the image host I know the image host hates that but there's really no other good way to do it with certain systems. We also still need to figure out the jpg versus jpeg situation.

Yes, I sure have. I have tried raw=1 and dl=1 to no avail.

Those are the only ways to get a direct link, and even they result in a redirect. I have no idea how the method you were using previously was working, because any link you receive by right-clicking on a preview and copying the link to the image would result in a link that only works for you or those that are signed in to your account, and that hasn't changed.

I agree, you can understand my excitement and confusion on this. Why did it work, and why is it now not working?

Hi @DropD, it's possible that the direct URL of the image can change, so you'd have to use the raw=1 method for images to be displayed directly.

If it's not showing in your browser, do other browsers work when viewing it there?

Has Dropbox considered being helpful and creating a quick link for their customers so they don't have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get a raw link? How about giving us a raw link option?
