Does someone know, how to turn off this annoying notification?
"Delete xxx.xxx? Because it's online-only it won't be moved to your Recycle bin"?
Hey there @bigsky - how are you today?
I moved your post under this thread as your inquiry echoes the OP's query and to keep things neat around our Community.
I double checked this internally and when it comes to the Smart Sync notifications and the option to disable them, this not possible I'm afraid. This specific type of notifications is a failsafe in order to save our users from un-necessary deletion/changes and cannot be disabled.
As for your consequent inquiry, again this is not possible; to disable those notifications beforehand. At this point, I'd like to thank you for your feedback - I will log this with the team as a feature request.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but I hope it helps to some extent. Please let me know if you have anything to add or ask; I'll be happy to follow up!
Hey there @Maxim K.6 - how are you today?
Could you forward me a screenshot of this error and the steps you take that result in it so I can have a better look of the matter at hand?
Thanks!
Steps:
For every file I get this warning. I understand, how "Online only" works, can I switch this warning off?
Thanks for the additional info Maxim - most appreciated.
As I wouldn't want to give you false information, let me check with the team and I'll get back to you once I have an update to share.
Thanks for your patience in the meantime.
Following up on this, as I wanted to bring it under the attention of our experts, I just sent you a brief message to your Dropbox associated email address so we can have a better look into it.
Take a look at your inbox and we'll take it from there!
Hi all,
I'm using the latest macOS Dropbox client on a Mac. Everything works well but there are a handful of recurring Dropbox alerts I find extremely annoying.
The worst among the bunch are Online-only-files-related alerts, which I'm plagued by thanks to my Dropbox Pro subscription; they raise their ugly head with every (online-only) file deletion, without an option to turn off any future incarnations of it.
Picture:
The following notification are less annoying since they can be turned off after their initial appearance, yet I've been wondering if there's a way to disable them in advance, before they pop for the first time? This would really streamline the deployment of many Dropbox clients I'm required to do occasionally.
Thanks. It would be great if opting-out of those alerts would be added in the future.
Seems similar to other posts, but I couldn't find a solution for this particular problem:
When deleting items from Dropbox on my Windows 10 device, I get a pop-up that states that I am deleting online-only files and that I can restore them throught the web application. I understood this the first, second, and 50th time. There doen't seem to be a checkbox for "Do not show again".
Do I have any options, or am I stuck with this? It makes cleaning my massive amount of folders take much longer than necessary.
Well, I can understand having the message in the first place, but not having a way to disable it because it's a "failsafe" makes less sense, since the process is non-permanent/reversable, as stated in the pop-up itself. I still think that we should have the option to acknowledge and disable the warning if we choose. If it's a liability issue, users simply disabling the message should give them no recourse, legal or otherwise.
I get the rationale, from a high level, but the warning (the 'because it's online only it won't appear in your recycle bin' warning) is terribly annoying. There needs to be an option to disable it. I get it if you want to bury said option somewhere deep in the settings (or even make it available ONLY via a registry-tweak - so casual users don't switch it off without knowing what they're doing), but reasonably savvy users who understand the concept it's conveying should really be able to disable. In any event, it's not a 'failsafe' - either way, the files are in your dropbox online deleted folder and can easily be recovered from there. So all teh warning does is serve as a tipoff that that's where to find them. And when recognizing that's all it is - no reason this warning shouldn't be able to be disabled when the other similar warnings can be.
Sorry i feel so strongly about this, but i do. it is really making me reconsider using online only files, which would be a huge problem and could ultimately result in me looking at other services. It's that annoying. the nature of my work is such that i often am adding and deleting and moving things around even without downloading (i.e. - i will always get this warning routinely).
so pllllllease for the love of my sanity, let there be an option to disable this!!
I also had to switch online only feature off because of extremely annoying warning.
I'd like to second the request to change this feature. It makes cleaning out my files incredibly cumbersome. Thank you
I'm still dealing with this too. It's extremely annoying and makes the Smar Sync feature almost worthless. Has a solution been determind?
Is this still the case? Has a fix been determined for this constant warning for EVERY file that is deleted?
Thanks for joining the topic @StoshZ.
As Jane mentioned above, we'd suggest sharing this as a request in our dedicated area of the Community here. From what I could find, we don't have a request for this at the moment.
Let me know if you have any questions!
are they working on a fix this makes the online only version of dropbox essentially unusable and it is quite useless for user with rewind account
Hey @nicolas r.6, thanks for joining the discussion here!
Please check out my post above when you have the time and let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers!
i did it is just that your interface for proposing new features is so cumbersome !
to be honest I believe I have suggested it in the right place but I am not even sure it works and already spent enough time trying to do so for something that should be pretty obvious for any normal user.
I am quite frustrated by that especially being a loyal customer since more or less the beginning especially since your competitors seem much more seemless
I'd also like the option to turn off (or at least suspend this functionality). I want the option to quickly delete photos after reviewing them on my computer and I'm getting a prompt after I delete every file.
This is a pathetic "fail-safe." However, you do have the ability to turn it off for a period of time in preferences, you need to turn them ALL off for "however" long. But seriously, can anyone say Darwin? (The following personal statement from me is not intended to insult anyone: If I'm an idiot and delete my files because I'm an idiot, I should suffer the consequence of an idiot.)
Has this been addressed ? It might be a deal-breaker for me. I've been using Dropbox for a long time and have been generally happy with it but I need to be able to disable notifications easily.

I would also like to request an option to turn off or suspend this warning.
So, those of us who know the basics of using a computer are doomed to suffer this obnoxious, incessant, and unnecessary message because of a misguided need to idiot-proof dropbox?
I hate this repeated warning message and don't understand why Dropbox wants me to see this warning every time.
One way to suppress this warning is to use the 'shift delete' method. If you hold down the shift key and press the delete button or drag files to your Recycle Bin, the selected files will be deleted without the warning message. You WILL be able to recover the deleted files on the Dropbox.com website as usual.
Hope this helps.
Hi @jungwindy,
Thanks for visiting the Dropbox Community! I hope you are well. I'm glad to see you found a workaround for this. Hopefully, some of the other Community members commenting above will be able to use it to make their experience a little bit better, too. We really appreciate your contribution here, keep up the good work!
Thanks again, and have a great day!
Graham
Hi again, @jungwindy! Thanks for clarifying that. Having spent most of my life on Windows machines, Mac tips, tricks and shortcuts are definitely not my strong point! But like you say, there may well be a similar workaround for Mac and hopefully someone will post it here if they discover it.
I'm always intrigued by people finding little workarounds like this, and was wondering if you have discovered anything else that helps make your work on Dropbox a little easier that you would like to share? Could be related to anything at all, not necessarily what's being discussed in this thread.
Thanks again, and have a great Friday!
