Auto-updates: In progress
I am still having problems with syncing not working, the sync starts but then throttles down to 0Kbps,
I have tried a forced clean install on some of the older stable versions but not sure how far back I can go since it would only be a matter of time before another forced defective update gets pushed to my machine again, the only real way to fix this, is to fix the bandwidth throttling which is happening. I am now getting 0Kbps sync speed and the sync is not done yet.
I am on Win 7pro 64Bit, I tried completely disabling my AV protection software including firewall to see if that helped, it did not. I tried another NIC, I tried manually setting the bandwidth my self to 50Mbps but of course it had to be done as a value for Kbps since thats how the desktop app works, I tried setting no limit, I set the desktop app to no proxy, but nothing can fix this on my end except for a proper patch to the program. I have 175Mbps Up and down on my internet plan and I have tested that as well, no problems on speedtest.net and no problems with any other applications regarding internet speed.
Tried a clean reinstall, tried all the tricks but there is no fix on the end user side for bad code, fix this dropbox. This is rediculous and it makes people want to leave your service. This problem started after a forced auto update to version 82.4.156 from dropbox. I believe at this point I will no longer recommend Dropbox to my cleints any more, after all there are other cloud drive services which actually work.
Ok so my problem was solved, someone at dropbox support fixed something on my account, so if you are having this problem, maybe try contacting support through this forum and ask them to fix your account, good luck to all that have been dealing with sync issues lately
I'm still having problems with the dropdown menu, not showing me 'Recently Changed Files'. The second dropdown flashes on the screen then immediately disappears
You might want to try a video driver update perhaps that will fix it, since the problems do sound display related
hope that helps
Not so sure, got a desktop and two laptops (all running Ubuntu 19.04) - they all have the same issue - also no other menu dropdown has done or does this? So maybe something in Gnome not getting called correctly, very strange response though as if I click multiple times, randomly it will show and stay and be fully functional, then if I close the dropdown I get the same thing happening again...
ah ok I thought you might be on a windows machine, but with that said I find many times in tech support some applications expect certain dependancies for the OS or drivers to have and if the OS doesnt have those dependancies, they malfunction. I would still check for OS updates first, then video driver and last but not least mouse driver. If that doesnt work, then id suggest contacting DropBox support, maybe they have a fixed version you could download, also I wonder if there is a dropbox download in the ubuntu store, maybe you might get some luck there.
good luck
Here's a vid of what's happening...
Cheers - I'll dig around, had the issue for nearly a year now. Hopefully the latest 19.10 fixes it
@layolayo1, This problem is still issue. As you already mentioned "no other menu dropdown has done or does this"! I can confirm that happens for long time (started might be a year ago). The issue is signaled. Would be fine to be solved finally. Even more, the issue isn't restricted to "Gnome" only, it's Dropbox application related definitely!
Lets hope... :thinking:
PS: Would be fine every user, reading this and experiencing the above issue, post a single line below, so at all could be more remarkable and focus Dropbox developers attention. :8ball:
is this the latest version?
Yes! @damianos. :slight_smile:
This version still seems to install one (1) 32bit program, which will not run on macOS 10.15 Catalina:
```
/Library/DropboxHelperTools/Dropbox_u503/atos
You can easily verify this by running `mdfind "(kMDItemExecutableArchitectures == 'i386') && (kMDItemExecutableArchitectures != 'x86_64')"`, to find all 32bit software.
It might not be used, as `cd /Library/DropboxHelperTools/; sudo grep -r atos .` doesn't give any results.
It's time to make publishing release notes current with the release of the code a thing again. There should be very few occasions when that isn't possible for a company the size of Dropbox. Even 1-person shops on Github manage it.
Found a bug with Catalina Finder right click menu while in dropbox folder. Getting double the number of context menus. Pls fix!
Greetings all,
After DB auto-updated to 83.4.152, I noticed that the block-level syncing doesn't seem to be detecting changes anymore for my VeraCrypt container.
Before the update, everytime I dismount my VC encrypted container, DB will index the file and compare the deltas at the block-level -- syncing the block-level changes. However, after the 152 update, I've noticed that even with lots of changes in the VC container, after I dismount, DB detects no changes to the encrypted file. I end up having a bunch of conflicts when trying to sync between machines via the "rename the file and rename it back" approach.
Could someone share resolution or your similar experiences if you're also using encrypted containers with DB?
Thanks,
BPH
Hey there,
I have a similar problem. Dropbox updated on 17th october to the new version 83.4.152. Since then the uploads seem to take much much longer for large files (~600MB). Is incremental sync not working anymore? Bevor this version I had upload times around 15 sec till 1 minute. Now it takes 25 min till 45 min.
It seems there has been a negative change.
Like bph2019 I also use an encrypted container (but EncFSMP not Veracrypt).
Greetings
The latest version of Dropbox (v83.4.152) for Windows 10 is a complete cluster**** that has me scrambling to find a good alternative. Problems include the following:
1. No delta-syncing: Small changes to the end of large text files result in lengthy sync times, whereas before, syncing was almost instant.
2. No compression for complete file syncs: New large text files added to Dropbox take far less time to sync when they are zipped versus when they are not zipped, implying that Dropbox is not compressing its data transmissions. It used to take the same amount of time to sync large files whether I zipped them first or not.
3. Dropbox in Windows locks files that are syncing: Previously, Dropbox did not lock the files it was syncing, meaning that my VBA code in Excel could open syncing files for reading or writing, and could even delete them. Now it can do none of these until Dropbox has finished syncing the file.
4. Exiting Dropbox causes Microsoft Excel 2016 to crash: If I click "Exit Dropbox" while Microsoft Excel 2016 is open (especially if it is running VBA code), Excel *instantly* crashes. Not every time, but very often.
Note that I have the Microsoft Offfice Add-On DISABLED. The "Badge" is also disabled in preferences.
I did report the problems to technical support, but got an illogical reply asking for screenshots. I'm hoping the problems are addressed more thoughtfully here.
Dropbox continuously crashes when it starts up saying it "unexpectedly closed". I'm using this latest stable build and I try reinstalling it and it does nothing. What is going on! I'll need to find another service at this rate. Windows 10 x64
I should point out that I do NOT use any encryption containers, which I could imagine would pose challenges for delta-syncing. So delta-syncing is just plain HOSED!
Is there any way for me to get back the version before 83.4.152? This "stable" version is utter and complete garbage.
Hi @iiiyraegr,
All available releases are visible one level up the current thread. :slight_smile: Take a look on page top ("Desktop client builds").
Thank you John L.2, that appears to have resolved ALL of my problems, at least for now.
IMO, that secret magic resynchornization button needs to be made a prominent feature of the Dropbox user interface. It's ridiculous that I had to suffer for a week with completely saturdated bandwidth and painfully slow syncs when all it took was the press of a button on your end to fix it.
Also, it appears that not even all Dropbox staff are aware of this resynchronization command. I have Jared in email explaining how Dropbox works to me (I've been using it for eight years, possibly longer than he has) and asking for screenshots to demonstrate the problems I've been reporting.
Hi @Javierin,
If the problem is unsupported FS, you can take a look here for workaround without changing anything else. Be careful about change in a variable name, noted below the script, which should be corrected by hand (dropboxforum bug) before use! DBX_WEB_src have to be modified to DBX_WEB_SRC, that's it.
Hope this gives some direction.
I spoke too soon when I said:
It did not fix ALL problems. A problem that the resynchronization did NOT fix is build 83.4.125's failure to use compression when syncing new text files added to Dropbox. With previous version so Dropbox I got about a 5x speed-up due to compression. (I could tell that data was being compressed using something similar to ZIP compression because the origianl file and the zipped file took the same amount of time to sync when neither had been added to Dropbox before.) Now the ZIP file syncs about five times faster than the origianl file, indicating that Dropbox is failing to compress.
