Hello Dropbox team,
I need help safely reducing storage on a Basic account before a deletion warning deadline. The account is about 15 MB over its quota. The website warns of November 14, 2026, while the email says November 15.
An old Windows computer has been replaced and is no longer available. I unlinked it in Settings > Security, and the Backups page now explicitly shows Unlinked. Its approximately 1.65 GB backup remains accessible.
I only want to remove two obsolete OneDrive installer .exe files, about 35 MB each, from the backed-up Downloads folder. However, the file Delete action still tells me to use Backup settings on the old computer. Choosing I don’t have access sends me back to instructions to unlink a device that is already unlinked. One dialog also refers to deleting Downloads rather than the selected individual files, so I stopped. Reloading did not resolve this.
Can Dropbox staff confirm whether individual files can be removed from this legacy unlinked backup and provide safe steps or escalate this problem? If only the entire backup can be removed, please explain how to download and verify a complete independent copy first. Please do not delete the full backup, other documents, or remove any shared folders.
Please also confirm the applicable deletion deadline and whether the automatic cleanup can be paused while this is investigated. I can provide account details privately through an official secure support channel if needed. Thank you.
