Overpaying for 3 licenses on Standard. How to switch plan without losing files?

I'm currently on the standard classic plan which I see advertised at 7.99 per month. However, I am paying £518.40 per year which my account says is for 3 licences at £144 each +20% vat - which is far too expensive. Unfortunately, I have fallen for auto renewal and its usually past renewal by the time I get any sort of notofication. Is 3 licences the minimum or is there a better plan without losing our files and collaberation?

Our usage is just me and my wife with a laptop each sharing and editing files such as the family tree or photographs. I sometimes access dropbox to view photos from my phone too. I could probaly do similar with the free onedrive with my 365 account or are there important differences?

You want to be careful using this option - firstly as its against the T&C's to use one plan between multiple people, but, secondly as it can cause issues in terms of ownership. For example everybody who has the password is technically an owner so they can do anything they want to all files/account. The other person, even if they are the one paying, has no recourse if they do something malicious, etc.

While I doubt it would happen here, it does and has before.

You'd be much better off with the Family Plan as Hannah suggested.

Hmm, it might be worth looking into our Family plan, since it's you and your wife.

It does offer 2 TB of shared space, though, which is less than what the Standard plan offers.

Is there a basic plan that just the two of us could use to share or edit files between us from time to time? Its only the same as if I had 2 laptops - say 1 at my house and 1 in my motorhome and log in to work on a file latest version
