I need help investigating a large unexplained deletion from my Dropbox account.
On April 14, 2026 at 8:06 AM, my Dropbox Events history shows:
“You deleted Screenshot 2026-02-22 at 10.5…PM.png and 170 more files.”
This means approximately 171 files were deleted in one event. The missing files were located across multiple folders, and I did not intentionally delete these files.
When I look at the individual folder activity, many of the missing files show the same deletion timestamp of approximately 8:05–8:06 AM. It would not have been possible for me to manually go through all of these folders and delete that many files individually at the exact same time.
I am using Dropbox Basic, and because I discovered this after the normal recovery period, I can no longer restore the files through Deleted Files.
Could Dropbox please investigate:
- What device, computer, session, or application initiated the 171-file deletion event?
- Whether this was caused by Dropbox synchronization or another bulk operation.
- Whether Dropbox has any server-side backup or other method to recover these files despite the normal recovery period having expired.
I have screenshots of both the Dropbox Events page and the individual folder Activity history showing the deletion timestamps.
These files are important, and I would greatly appreciate any assistance investigating what happened and determining whether recovery is possible.
Thank you.
