Does the hosted MCP server at mcp.dropbox.com expose any file write tools (upload, create, delete)? If not, is that on the roadmap?

I have 'files.content.write' checked under individual scopes but my connector can only seem to read and not save files.

As of today, the hosted MCP server at mcp.dropbox.com/mcp currently exposes read-only capabilities. It does not provide tools for file write operations such as uploading, creating, or deleting files.

Our team is actively evaluating how developers are using MCP and gathering feedback on potential future capabilities. While we can't make any commitments about specific features or timelines, input like yours helps inform those discussions.

Thank you @DB-Des for the response. If it is helpful, my specific use case is to connect claude.ai to dropbox via a dedicated user access login that only has access to the folders we want accessible by the AI. We would like to use dropbox as the "company knowledge base" where we can store SOP's and inform our AI for future chats. Right now it can read the files we store, but we need to manually add the files when we create them. Would be great to be able to automate that.

Follow up on the above, is there a scope that would allow comments on a file in dropbox to be read by the mcp connector? Use case is to load a file manually into dropbox, mark it up comments, have the AI connect via MCP to read comments and implement changes and then generate a replacement file to be saved manually into the folder.

At this time, the MCP connector provides read-only access to file content and metadata, but it does not currently expose file comments through MCP. Because of this, there isn't a scope that would allow comments on a file in Dropbox to be retrieved via the MCP connector.

Is this a limitation of the Dropbox MCP connector that could be worked around by building a custom integration using the API? I am about to embark on that alternative path but wanted to make sure my assumption here was correct. Appreciate your insights here.

While the Dropbox MCP connector is still in its early stages and currently offers a limited set of capabilities, the limitation you're asking about isn't specific to MCP. There isn't a Dropbox API endpoint available today that exposes file comments, so building a custom integration directly with the Dropbox API would not currently provide a way to retrieve comments either.

That said, we've submitted a feature request for an API endpoint that would allow programmatic access to comments. While we can’t guarantee if or when that functionality might be introduced, feedback like yours helps inform future development.
