How can I recover files deleted 3 years ago?

I'm on a free plan right now.

In '22 I sold my biz and along with it, all the dropbox files I used to had (LOTS). Before transferring all the files to the new owner, I downloaded a giant folder full of personal stuff, then deleted it from Dropbox.

I just realized that the file I downloaded was put on an external drive that was thrown away.

The new owner is happy to help me restore the folder if possible, but is it? I saw an add-on that allows us to go all the way back 10y to restore files, but is that an add-on that had to be purchased when I started? Can I buy it now, then restore my folder?

Any other ideas?

Hi @SuperTxGuy, thanks for contacting us about your missing files. 

In order to recover them, you would've needed to have the Extended Version History (EVH) purchased back when the files were deleted, and you would've needed to be on a Dropbox team as well, since those are the plans with a 10 year recovery period with EVH. 

If you were to purchase the EVH now, you wouldn't be able to recover the files as the feature isn't retroactive, and the files would've been permanently deleted by now.
