If you’re here on the Dropbox Community, chances are you are a Dropbox user or you’re thinking about signing up. Here are some simple tips to get your Dropbox account set up and ready to use. Get everything organized how you like, and know that it’s safe, that you can access it everywhere and you don’t have to worry about a lost file again.
This is obviously step one, so if you’ve done that already, skip right on down.
If you haven’t set your account up yet, here’s how:
- Create an account on dropbox.com.
- To do that you simply need to type your name and email address (your email address is the username for your Dropbox account), create a unique password.
- Once you click to agree to the T&Cs and finally click Create an account - you’re all set!
When you’re all set up, we recommend creating a Community account too, so you can find answers to your Dropbox questions and chat with other Community members - sign up or learn more here if you haven’t already. Don’t forget to sign up with the same email address as your Dropbox account, just to keep it all connected 😁
Dropbox is the perfect place to keep your files safe and up to date, so let’s get them into your account. To add files from dropbox.com, sign in and click Upload. Choose either Files or Folder and select the ones you want. It’s that easy!
We’ve all been through the gut wrenching moment of realising you’ve lost a file, so here are some tips about backing up your files and your computer. Computer backup lets you back up certain key folders on your computer, such as “Desktop”, “Documents”, and “Downloads”, to Dropbox. Keeping everything important to you safe and synced gives you serious peace of mind. Check out a guide here.
Now that you’re set up, you can use Dropbox Passwords, to take the pain out of logging in to everything. Dropbox Passwords is a password manager that syncs across your devices. It lets you seamlessly sign in to websites and apps by storing your passwords securely. The app remembers your usernames and passwords on all your devices — so you don’t have to. Learn more about it here.
After that, we highly recommend checking out how other Community members use Dropbox or even how Dropboxers do, like Amelia! What else do you want to know about Dropbox? Let us know in the comments below!
