Can you please help me understand the Difference between dropbox app and web-based dropbox ?
I have both, but am used to the web-based. Any advantages to using the app only?

There aren't really any major differences, it's however you like your workflow to be.
The only one I can think of are the programs that open the files. For example dropbox web opens photos in it's own photo viewer, but if you use the app on a laptop you can open photos in Microsoft's Photos.
