I would need to know if it is possible to retrieve the comments written for a shared file (comment and position) and if it is possible to upload new comments or answers from a desktop application using CURL. Haven't found at the API list.
Thanks.
Greg, thanks your your prompt answer.
Yes, it would be great to have this feature. Thanks.
Definitely need programmatic access to comments: ability to retrieve so that reports can be generated (and this includes reports incorporating comments, and the text snippets they are commenting on, across multiple files), and ability to pull comments in from other sources.
Greg - any update on this after a year? The need to get comments (user generated content) when collaborating on a project is really important. And copy paste for anything over a few files is pretty inadequate.
@Jeremiah A.2 No, I'm afraid I don't have an update on this request.
Hi.
We use the comments to gather information about changes needed in PDF files.
Having an API to take these comments out and put them into another system would help us alot ! I do this manually right now.
Anything new on this? Seems to be a relativly small change, for a start I could do with just getting comments?
@ampinwatec No, unfortunately I don't have any news on this.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick response.
Can you try to poke around and see if anyone even know about this feature request? :-)
I can't believe this is not supported in the API. Seems like a very obvious inclusion.
Hi again. I did some poking around in your EmberUI Interface. I see that you're already loading comments from an API. Perhaps we could be allowed to use that API?
/file_activity/file_activity?is_xhr=true&activity_context=3&activity_context_data=<Path to File Censored>&_subject_uid=<Subject Censored>
@ampinwatec That's part of the web product itself and not available on the public API unfortunately. This feature request is open with the team but I don't have an update on it.
Could you try to get it prioritized? It would help our production of machines alot :-)
And until it becomes an unstable feature that's usable to some extend, would you mind if I wire myself into the web product itself and fetch the comments from that?
@ampinwatec I've sent your feedback along to the team, but I can't promise if or when it would be implemented unfortunately.
Also, accessing the Dropbox web site programmatically like that would be against the terms, and also subject to change/breaking without notice.
Thanks for sending my feedback to the team.
I don't mind if it breaks randomly - if I know that's the terms, then I'll just monitor it manually. Not an issue for the moment. At the moment, the bigger issue is that comments get lost randomly due to moving files around and there's no overview at all.
Where can I apply for an exemption so that I could be allowed to access the non-public web comments API for internal use in my organization only? I'd be putting limits on how many requests it can make per second to something lower than if I just browse around looking for it :-)
@ampinwatec We don't offer a way to apply for access to use the web endpoints programmatically.
@Greg-DB - any update on this? :-)
@ampinwatec No, I don't have an update on this request I'm afraid.
How can we get this prioritized? It seems I'm not the only one who would REALLY like this feature to be implemented ASAP? :-) @Greg-DB @QMan @alfoto @aschulman @Jeremiah A.2
@ampinwatec This feature request is open with the team, and I've included your feedback, but I can't promise if/when it will be released.
Hi Greg,
Is there any update on the issue? Is there any API which allows to create and get comments? Thanks.
Hi @acty_vishwas,
There is no update on this feature request, nor are there any existing API endpoints for reading or writing file comments. I have updated the existing request to include your additional expressed interest in these endpoints.
Hi @DBX_Robert,Thank you for the consideration!
Hi, how can I "follow" this topic or know about this feature ?
If you scroll to the top of the page, there should be three dots in the upper right corner, right below the link that says "support" that you can click. In that menu should be a "subscribe" option.
Maybe - just maybe - this could be a new years present to all professional dropbox users out there?
@ampinwatec I'm afraid we don't have any update on this feature request. Apologies I don't have any better news to share for the new year!
