Large volumes of photo and video files are missing from my Dropbox account over multiple years

Question

I've been doing mobile syncing of my mobile phone on Dropbox for over 10 years and haven't had any issues. Recently I noticed large chunks of years are missing. For example the entire year or 2025 there are only 2 photo back ups and in 2023 there are only 35 photos for the whole year that should be synced automatically via the mobile app. Large chunks of years are missing from my backup. This is further worrisome as I have 600 gigs and now only 77 gigs are being utilized. Why has suddenly a large amount of data been removed/missing?

I see. Do you remember the last time you were able to see those files either on the Dropbox website, or your mobile app?

If you happen to know any specific filenames, you can also use the search bar on the Dropbox website and check if it’ll return any results.

It'd also be useful to know if these files were shared with anyone else.

Yes my camera uploads are automatically added to my Dropbox account.

My events show that I regularly sync my photos to my account. Yet despite that- the entire 2025 album (aside from 2 photos) are not showing up on DB. Among others from years ago that I do not have access to anymore, I was relying on DB to store them for me- videos and photos.

My concern is with older media that is missing.

To make sure I got this right, you’ve been using camera uploads on your mobile app to automatically add your photos/videos to your Dropbox account. Correct?

When could you last see those missing files on www.dropbox.com? Was it within the last 30 days, or has it been more than that?

I'd also like you to confirm the Dropbox plan that you see here.

Finally, please check your Events and Deleted files page in the meantime, if you haven’t already.

Let me know what you find.
