Files are saving to the cloud but not appearing in recent items

I'm on a Mac and my files are saving locally and syncing to the cloud perfectly, but all of a sudden they are not appearing in my recent items. I have quit Dropbox and restarted it. I have also logged out of the account and logged back in. It reindexed but the problem remained.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Hey @dtmdbox - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Can you clarify if you're referring to the recent items area on the website or your activity in the Dropbox desktop app?

If it's for the desktop app, could you try editing or moving a small file from your Dropbox folder and send me a screenshot of how it looks on your recent items?

Also, what is your computer's exact OS version and the status/version of the Dropbox desktop app as shown in your menu bar?

Have the same problem - files do sync but does not show in recent items neither in Mac desktop app or Dropbox web.

Can it perhaps be related to Tahoe 25.5.1 update just released?

I am using Dropbox 254.4.2518 on Tahoe 26.5.1. Not using Dropbox on File Provider (and prefer not to).

Can you try clearing your browser's cache and/or another browser and let me know if this persists @mortenborg?

Also, what type of files are you working on which you'd expect to find in your recents or activity on the app?

Browser/cache changes nothing. Under recent files on the web and in the client only files from yesterday show, despite files have synced to other Mac on the network (where recent also does not update). And when I inspect files on the web, they ARE updated in the Dropbox servers. So seems like sync is fine, but recent files lists just do not update.

Working mainly on PHP and JS files (plain text).

I am on an Apple Mac running Tahoe 25.5.1.

Everything was working just fine up to 4pm yesterdayafternoon. Since then I have saved many files to Dropbox, which all appear synced online when viewed through a browser, but none of which appear in recent items on the desktop ior on my phone App.

Are they all different file types, or a specific one?

Could you please confirm the version of the Dropbox desktop app and its syncing status? You can find this by hovering your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, next to your WiFi.

Do you notice a difference when you edit the files, or not?

Editing the files makes no difference. Adding new files makes no difference.

The recent list is stuck with old files that updated 17 hours ago.

I have just saved a file to Dropbox from my phone though which has been added to the reent list.

If you could send me a couple of screenshots of what the recents both online, and on your desktop app look like on your end, I'd appreciate it in order for me to have a visual too.

While you're at it, please send me a screenshot of your app's version, and syncing status.

Lastly, please try switching to a different browser or incognito tab like Walter mentioned here. Thanks!

I have same problem… This might be most annoying problem i ever had with dropbox ruined my whole day, Im a music producer I keep sending stuff to people all around the world everyday this legit slowed me down like crazy. We need a fix asap i tried everything nothing works

All of a sudden mine is working again. I did nothing to it.

To test it to see if it was fixed I saved a new file.

And the same problem persists. Any new file saved, goes to the cloud with no issues, but then fails to appear on the recent list.

I'm guessing that in 24 hours it may appear on the recent list.

This lends me to believe that it is a Dropbox issue and not a Mac operating system issue.

+1 to me too - but then I'm using the same set up as the OP - MacOS Tahoe 26.5.1 and Dropbox 254.4.2518).

Files aren't showing in the 'recent items' in the Desktop app (or the Android app for that matter), and not on the 'Recents' dropbox.com/home webpage.

However, they are appearing in the old-school 'Recently changed files' (right click - or Option+click - on the icon in the menu bar, then scroll to 'Recently changed files') and are appearing in Finder when synced, so I know they are syncing properly.

It does sound a lot like a bug in this build.
