Migrated files from one folder to another and now many files are gone

Hello!

I'm working with some colleagues and I realized I was using a separate folder (same name), so I moved all of my files over to the correct Dropbox folder everyone else was working on. Now some very important files are missing. These files did not exist on my version that I copied over (so they weren't overwritten), and nothing was deleted, so I'm not sure why this would happen. Some of them are very, very important and very time sensitive, like we lost days of work from this happening.

I don't know if this is something I did or Dropbox did, but is there anything you can do to help with this? I can see the files in Event Details, but many of them download as 0 bytes and are therefore unusable.

Update: Looks like I was able to restore most of them, but the most important file (naturally) is an older version from last week. The most recent version is from yesterday, so I could still use help with this!

Hey @jerryterhorst - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

When it comes to the version you're looking for, have you tried checking the file's version history and/or your events page?

Hey @Walter, appreciate the response! The tricky part is the file I need doesn't exist at all anymore on DB, so there is no version history to look up. The correct one (v2) does appear on the events page, but, when I download it, it shows up as 0 bytes and does not open (the same happened with a lot of the other files, although some were able to be downloaded this way)

I was able to find a copy of the one I need (v1) from earlier in the week in events that had a "Restore" option, but unfortunately that doesn't appear on the v2 file.

Whoops, meant to add — I was able to restore another version of it (also old) in the Deleted Files section. The strange part is the newest version (v2) was not restored and does not appear to be anywhere that I can locate. Other than the event page, where it doesn't work because the file is 0 bytes.

Sorry for all the adds, haha, doesn't look like I can edit my post — to be clear, when I say "v1" or "v2", I'm referring to separate files (i.e. "File Name v1", "File Name v2"), not different versions of the same file in Dropbox-speak.

So, there must have been some sort of interruption when you first moved the files you mentioned @jerryterhorst. When it comes to the missing version(s) of your files, I'm afraid it sounds like they never really made it to our servers.

Ah ok got it, very odd. I do remember hitting "CMD+Z" to undo something right after the files were copied over (intended for another program, but it affected the wrong Finder window). Do you think possible I "undid" the file(s) from being fully copied over to DB from my compter?
