How can I access a shared folder without needing to upgrade?

I have to upgrade my Dropbox because someone shared a large directory with pictures with me. I'm not the owner of the directory, but I still have to upgrade. That seems a bit strange.

how can I change that I'm not the 'owner' and I have not to updrade?

If you need read write access I'm afraid you cannot.

All users within the share use up quota.

If, however, you just need read only access ask for a shared link instead and leave the share.
