Shared content takes up space, and issues downloading content since my account is full.

Good afternoon! Nothing has been downloaded to my drive, but it says there is no space available.

I have also been given shared access, and these files are taking up space, even though they are all stored on the owner's drive. Why are these files taking up space on my drive?

Because of this, I am unable to download my own material.

Sorry for the lengthy reply, I just want to make sure I include everything.

If I understand correctly, it sounds like you're having trouble since the desktop app won't sync your content, right? If not, feel free to correct me.

Provided that's the case then bear in mind that if your Dropbox account is full or over quota, the desktop app itself can still be downloaded and installed. However, syncing of files will stop until you free up space or upgrade your plan.

The app's installation is not blocked by a full account, but you won't be able to sync or download additional files to your computer until you are back under your storage limit.

In addition to the second issue, keep in mind that if you have edit access to the folder, it'd need to take up space in your account as well, so that you can edit it.

If you no longer need the folder or its content, you can remove your own access by following the steps here. Otherwise, you can always access a folder without affecting your own space. You'd have to ask the owner to send you a "view-only" link instead.

And lastly, if you need to upload files to someone else's account, they can also send you a file request, which won't affect your space either.
