I can't save shared content to my Dropbox account, or download/print it. What can I do?

Hi, the first time someone shared files with me I was able to download them into my own Dropbox storage to view at my leisure. Now, they have shared more files but I can't download them. It says the function is disabled for all these files. Is that because they have not enabled it at their end? I just need to know if it's something they need to change please. I also cannot print the documents. Is that something they can enable at their end too? Or do I just download and then print once the documents are in my Dropbox storage?

Hey @Sho Jo! Thanks for posting here today.

Were these files shared with you via link? If yes, were you clicking on the “Save to my Dropbox” option previously to add them directly to your Dropbox account, instead of downloading them to your device? You can send me a screenshot of what you're seeing at the moment, too.

As for printing the documents, you can download them to your computer indeed and print them after that.

However, can you clarify what you see if you try to print them directly via the Dropbox website? Is the option grayed out, or doesn’t it show at all?

Give me a nudge, once you have more info.

Thanks Nancy. The link was shared with me via email. When I click on it, Dropbox opens and shows the files. It has my account initials at the top, so I guess this means it has opened in my account? I'm using a desktop, and I had Dropbox already open before clicking on the link in the email.

Apart from seeing the files the person is sharing with me, the only other things I can see on my screen are the layout button (grid or list) and then at the top left there are two other buttons:

1/ Download (greyed out). If I click on it the message comes up "You don't have permission to download this folder.

2/ Share. If I click on this I can copy the link.

That's it. Where do I find the Save to my Dropbox option? I'm so confused. Please help.

Thanks for following-up, @Sho Jo! Did you check with the owner to make sure they haven’t disabled downloads?

If you did, and that’s not the case, I’d like a screenshot of what you see on your end, after clicking on the link you received in your email (feel free to mask the contents of the link, if you wish, so that they’re not visible on the forum).

Also, once I can download them to my Dropbox, will I then be able to use the search function? I have Dropbox Plus. I want to search the documents contents (not just file names). How do I do this?

At the moment the feature to search the contents of your files is available to certain plans.
