Hello,
My dropbox stopped replicating of PC / Windows 11
So uninstalled and re-installed.
At installation I get: error 1073741819
and installation fails all the time
What should I do?
Dropbox version "Dropbox219.4.4463" worked for me. Thanks a lot. PROBLEM FIXED.
Hey @Francois4, hope you don't mind me jumping in.
You can click on the trash can icon next to the computer/desktop app sessions you’d like to delete and this should resolve the issue.
If you still have an issue with reinstalling the Dropbox app after that, let us know.
Hi Nancy
I have deleted the 3 devices with the trash icon and rebooted the computer, but no change, always the same error message!
Hi @Francois4, that error message should be unrelated to the device limit on your Dropbox account.
Could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?
Hi Jay, I have done everything : uninstall of Dropbox app, complete cleaning of all folders Dropbox in the Windows register and folders %LOCALAPPDATA%, %APPDATA%, %PROGRAMFILES% and %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%, and then reopened the laptop. First result, I can load the Dropbox app, but impossible to install it, I still get the error message -1073741819. But this time there is a link to open. They recommend to make a complete installation, but I still get the same error message ...What to do ?
Is this a personal machine, or a company-managed device?
Do you have any firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings that could be restricting traffic to the following Dropbox domains? Could you try temporarily disabling them when installing the app?
Lastly, could you download the full version of the Dropbox desktop installer from this page and try using that with the advanced reinstallation steps?
Hi Jay
I use a personal machine.
I had already tried the firewall. However I have disabled Windows Defender to install the app.
I had already tried the full version of the Dropbox deskstop installer, but I have recleaned everything, rebooted, reload the full version, and it is even worse : I cannot even begin the installation process, with the error message " Echec de l'installation. Echec du demarrage du programme d'installation de Dropbox" !
Do you have the possibility to take the control of my laptop to check what is not working ?
My issue with the same error was the Nvidia graphics driver needed updating. After that, no issues. It was a large update that took some time... Quite why a graphics card stops Dropbox working is something that I'll not likely ever know.
Just to add, Dropbox wasn't the only programme that wasn't working ...
Thanks @TheFieldMarshall !
I have checked the version of the pilot of Nvidia Graphics, but I have already the last one. Then I tried to reinstall Dropbox, without success ...
Hey @Francois4 & @TheFieldMarshall - In order for us to determine if this is an issue related to your user profile, could you please create a brand new local Operating System user profile with administrator rights in which you try to reproduce the behavior?
Let us know how it goes and we'll take it from there.
Hi Walter
I have created a brand new user profile (not an easy matter!) and try to install Dropx with the administrator rights, but I have the same (new) problem : as soon as the installation begins, I get the message " Echec de l'installation. Echec du demarrage du programme d'installation de Dropbox".
Thanks for the update here, Francois.
Just to confirm, before all this, were you able to use the Dropbox app on this computer without any issues?
Yes sure, I used it for years and after a reload of Dropbox (on the same computer) it became impossible to connect it because "I had more than 3 devices", that was never the case.
I was also surprised to see that as of July 1st the problem changed : it was not only impossible to install Dropbox but even to begin the installation process. I had probably deleted a file useful for that. So I have recovered all folders cancelled at this time and this impossibility to even begin the installation process has disappeared. However I still have the main impossibility to install Dropbox (at the end of the installation process), with the same error code -1073741819. This is teh case also with the brand new profile I have created.
I have also tried to use the Link Computer option to install Dropbox from my phone, but no way, same problem.
Hi again, @Francois4! We appreciate all the info you’ve provided and thanks for your patience so far.
I’ve gone ahead and logged a ticket for you, so that we can investigate the issue internally. Please reply back to it, once you see it in the inbox of your email address.
I face the same problem.
My Dropbox stopped replicating of PC / Windows 11. So I uninstalled and re-installed, disabled antivirus and firewall and at installation I got error 1073741819. I formatted my computer back to factory settings, installed Dropbox, and I got it working for a few days.
Two days ago, it stopped executing again, I could not open it and therefore the new files that I placed in my local Dropbox folder would not synchronize with the cloud. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled, and got error 1073741819 again. I disabled antivirus and firewall, closed Dropbox, uninstalled the program, restarted my computer, deleted Dropbox folders at “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” , deleted all Dropbox folders at “%LOCALAPPDATA%”, “%APPDATA%”, “%PROGRAMFILES%” y “%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%”, updated Nvidia drivers, reinstalled a couple of Dropbox full versions of the software, including Dropbox219.4.4463 and still, it doesn't work. I get error 1073741819 all the time.
I have also created a new user with administrator rights, tried to install the program, but it doesn't respond. If I search for it, I can see Dropbox among my programs, but if I click on it, it will not even open.
I have been using Dropbox with a subscription for over 15 years, but I must admit that I have grown tired of facing so many problems that caused me to waste so much time trying to solve them and I have started searching for other alternative software.
Hi @bosmancito and @TheFieldMarshall,
Could you please attempt to install Dropbox using the following Enterprise installer link instead? https://client.dropbox.com/desktop/desktop-dropbox/requestdownload?install_type=enterprise_install&platform=win&arch=x86_64&build=228.4.5567
If the issue persists, please confirm whether you have any antivirus software installed? If not, are you using a VPN or proxy?
The Error code -1073741819 (hexadecimal: 0xC0000005) is a Windows access violation error. It typically occurs when an application tries to access memory it is not permitted to, often due to:
1. Run System File Checker (SFC)
2. Use Check Disk Utility
Try these steps and let me know how it goes.
