I joined a client's folder, but I'm being asked for more Dropbox space to add a file to it.

A client shared their dropbox link with me to upload files and it keeps telling me my personal account is full and to upgrade. I don't want to upgrade my account. The clients have a full account and I joined their folder to upload too. How can I get rid of this error.

If you’ve been added as member to a shared folder, and you try to upload a new file to it, then you’ll need to have enough space on your personal Dropbox account for that file, as well.

Please keep in mind that, your Dropbox account and your client’s are two totally separate ones, and even if they share a folder with you, they still can’t share their account quota (you can also see more details on this here).

However, if you just wish to upload a file to their Dropbox account, you can ask them to send you a file request instead, which won’t affect your Dropbox storage (as you can directly add the file to your client’s account, even when you're not signed in to Dropbox).
