I've lost my Dropbox Paper documents, how can I get them back?

Hello. A few weeks ago I noticed that I lost all my Dropbox Paper documents. I have been using this application for years and I really like it. The documents contain important information for my work and it is a big problem for me. After a few days, some of the documents started to appear again, but it is only a small part. I can't find an official statement from Dropbox anywhere. I tried the usual procedures and those I found on the forums, but nothing helped. A small part of the documents came back, but the vast majority of them are gone. Can anyone please advise me or direct me? This is an unpaid service, I have not noticed any changes to the rules that could explain anything. Thank you

Hi @Jay Jay, no i cant. I have been looking for various solutions and answers to the topic of missing data from dropbox paper. The whole paper application behaves strangely. After each reload, a different number of files is shown, sometimes 10, sometimes 3, sometimes 1.

When was the last time you viewed your Paper documents when visiting your account online?

Have you tried switching to a different browser to see if you notice the same thing there?

Hi Megan.

Everything was in pristine condition in the first half of December. I found out about the change, or rather the fact that it completely disappeared, in the second half of January.

It is important to mention that I contacted several friends and partners who had the same problem. The documents disappeared. I also contacted clients to see if they could see the documents that I shared for them - they disappeared.

As I wrote before, each refresh of the page causes more or less documents to be loaded, but in reality only a small part of the original number is shown to me.

It is bad because I had projects scheduled for the next year, budgets, installments ... everything

@MeganI have the same issue which I have just noticed. My Dropbox paper was fine this morning. now it is empty.

Can you navigate your account and let me know if you can find a folder called 'Migrated Paper Docs'?

Otherwise, do you see anything odd logged in your events page?

I am prety sure I am not the only one who have a huge problem in his bussiness because out privat informations and data are lost from your free application.

Pls update me with some data and dont ask me the same 2 questions.

Hi, same thing happened to me and at the same time that Robert369 is mentioning (noticed it middle January) that all Paper Dropbox documents have disappeared. They are not listed nor in any folder. However I did figure that when i search with key words they do come up in search box. Please let me know has solution been found to this? Ie how to return files to main folder and view? They are not in the bin or nowhere else. Thank you.

Hi @BojanaV thank you for your point. I tried many time the search bar too. No result for me. Nothing. It behaves as if it was deleted - it doesn't exist and I didn't delete it).

Hi, yes for me they have totally dissapeared too. In main view they are gonne compleately. And at the same time that you stated. It is not really too helpful that they do appear (at least some of them) when i search key words as for lots of these files I can not even remember key phrases so it is almost as if they are gonne.

It did happen at same time as you stated (mid January) so clearly something DID HAPPEN with dropbox paper than.

@BojanaVThanks for your informations and communication. Same for me, it's not realistic to remember all the file names because that's why we use services like dropbox paper to archive past projects and data for us.

I know it's happened to a lot of people and i'm sure dropbox knows they made a massive mistake and by all accounts they act like a dead bug.

I will survive without that data but I repeat for me it was the materials that archived my production in creating projects, communication with clients outlines and a lot of data that I spent hundreds of hours on and now they're gone and the people from dropbox are asking me the same stupid questions.

Yes I agree! and for me to - I will survive that, however I did have some very impotant data there, creative project etc, and we are talking 10 years minimum.. so for me it is the same as if data has been deleted.

I was hoping that they did find a solution, but i did see as you say, that they just keep asking you stupid questions and have no solution.

This is also happening to me. DB paper home page only shows the paper I made today, and my 100+ other docs are missing unless I search.

I wish more people come with the same story so the dropbox team start to move theyr asses and help us with our lost data. I am in touch with some random people from dropbox but they ask me the same nonsence all around. They lost a very important materials and data for my work.

@adam1111, I’d like you to try something else as a test. If you have the Dropbox mobile app installed on your device, please search for one of the Paper docs you’re missing; are you seeing its current filepath in the results?

If you do, please tap on the ellipsis icon with the three dots next to it and choose the option “Show in folder”. Can you see the rest of your missing files then, including that one?

Big paper update!

The new dropbox paper app-update landed and now i can say you lost all my files! Last time I had 10 - 15 files from my 80 plus (no one is counting something that should be safe) and now i can see 2 of them. I tried to use the search all thi tricks. Its gone!

Figured this out. Dropbox migrated all the old paper documents to a dropbox folder called "Migrated Paper Docs" and gave everything the extension ".paper"

So, you can search ".paper" and everything will come up.

So find this "Migrated Paper Docs" folder, go here:

Look thru the left side for a folder called "Migrated Paper Docs". They're all in there now!

Here we go! More than 3 months after DROPBOX lost my data, which was so important for my small business, nothing changed. No information, no help, just generic replies always from a different person, and they always ask the same **bleep**.

I need advice. I need some help here from the community. I had most of my price offers, deals and other information in my lost Dropbox Paper documents and this **bleep**ers lost them!
