The account looks like it has started from scratch, all files missing

Help! A couple of weeks ago, I uploaded some new documents to a new folder and also deleted some documents from an old folder. I had not used the account for about four years. Now when I log in, there is nothing there anymore, but some start-up instructions and a couple of invitations to shared folders (that I don´t recall seeing a couple of weeks ago). I really need those missing files! Can I have a parallel account somehow? I only have one possible e-mail address. How can I find out if I have more than one account?

When was the last time you remember seeing those files or folders on the website?

Do you see any signs of them in your deleted files page or the events page by any chance?

Something very sad has happened to me too. I formatted my phone, and when I logged back into my Dropbox account, all of my files and photos from the past six years have disappeared. I accessed these files until some months ago, but now I can no longer access them. My account appears to be completely empty. I have lost all of my very important photos and documents. How can I recover them? I am using the same login and email, but the files are no longer there. They are very important to me, and I urgently need to recover them.

Were you able to find any signs of your missing files in the events page or the deleted files page I linked above @Barbara G?

If not, have you ensured that you're looking at the correct account?

I looked inside Dropbox to see if I could find deleted files or any trace that those files were there. But it is empty, as if there were never any files before. I checked, and it really is the account where I had my photos and documents. But I wasn't paying for Dropbox. Did it expire because of that? How can I recover them? If I pay something, can I get those photos and files back?

Hey @Barbara G, if I were you, I'd double-check to see if I had any other accounts with Dropbox.

You can do that by searching your email accounts for any Dropbox related emails.

Your files wouldn't be deleted, even if your account was a free one, so there must be another explanation.

Also, if the files were shared, make sure to check your shared page as well.

Hi! I googled other people's problems and also found the events and deleted options, but no, there is no movement at all. I also cannot see any emails from Dropbox this year in my gmail inbox. I used and uploaded to my "other" account about two-three weeks ago. The content seemed completely different then (I had some old files and added some new files). The account I access now also has some old invitations to share, but nothing I have uploaded myself.

Hey @LinnLukschandl, do you remember the exact date and names of the files you uploaded?

If so, we could send you an email, so that we can search your account internally, to confirm whether these files were ever uploaded to this account or not.

Hi Hannah, it might have been October 9th, or else 8th or 7th. I created a folder which might have been called either 'Privat' or possibly 'Diakonia', and filled it with documents. Grateful for any help!

Hi Hanna,

I checked, and indeed, the Dropbox account I had since I was new, which I used for over six years, is the one that is empty. I had several important photos on it, but nothing appears now. I verified all the emails, and it is really the same email. However, they simply disappeared from the page, as if I never uploaded them. I didn't share them with anyone since they were personal files.

Could you please check for me where these files are so that I can recover them? I’m not sure what happened. And it's the same email; I've checked three times.
