Did they install the Dropbox application on a unique computer? Mobile devices do not count for referrals. After they install and sign into the Dropbox application on a unique computer, they also need to verify their email address.

Actually it was that. I didn't realise it had to be the desktop version, plus it hadn't been installed from the link sent via email
