Missing Files After my subscription renewed today almost all (95%) of my files disappeared and are not in recently deleted files.

Renewing your account doesn't (and simply can't) cause your files to go missing. Are you sure you're signed in to the correct account? If so, take a look at your Events page and see if there are any deletion events. You can also check your Deleted Files to see if your files are located there, and if they are, you can restore them if they were deleted within the last 30 days.
Events and recent deletions are blank. I did have two accounts, but Dropbox won't allow me to even access one of them.
If events is blank then there is nothing on this account and its a new one having not been used.
You need to go to the other one, I'd imagine, to get the files back.
Okay I had all my files deleted without my permission. I. have communicated before....I never even gave drop box permission to take all my files.
I have competely removed it from my computer as I DID NOT WANT TO KEEP TAKING MY FILES.Now I have just done my tax...and I do not have the records to validate things plus some important legal information.
I tried to download the app...there was nothing in it...and it. said I was out of space....blah blah I don't want to pay money BUT CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME GET MY DATA BACK.
What has happened to me is really bad....the information you have provided is minimal and not proactive. I would please like someone toadies me....will my data still be in the company as I need it...and soon. to get rewind I had to pay and that is not fair either.
Janine
Hi @Janinec, I'd be happy to help!
Do you by any chance refer to our Backup option?
Have you checked into your deleted files page, for the missing files?
Keep me posted on the results!
Hi Mel
yes I have they are ALL GONE. It would be great if you can help me.
regards
Hi there, @Janinec! Sorry to see that your files are missing.
So, they do not appear in your deleted files page at all? How about your events page?
Do you see any deletion events related to the particular files?
Have you also checked your computer's trash/recycle bin, to see if you can locate them there?
no they must be in the dropbox system...thats why im asking someone to help me
@Janinec if they are not showing on your pages and you do not have another account they are not on the Dropbox system, sorry. The Dropbox system logs everything on the Events tab so if not there then its not uploaded (or has been deleted etc.).
So from looking at your other posts (linked here) you installed and told Dropbox to do backup. However, if you didnt have enough quota they wont upload to Dropbox. Then if you uninstall it and dont do it correctly they are removed locally. There is no way, at all, via Dropbox to recover those files. They have not ever existed on its servers. They didnt upload.
The other thing to note is that, unfortunately, even if they were deleted and uploaded at some point unless, at the time you did it, you were a paid user as its now over 30 days since your deletion they are also not recoverable. Dropbox only allows for 30 days of recovery on free accounts. There is no way, at all, to extend or recover beyond that.
other what ? I want drop box to reinstate them to me.....do you think they still have them?
@Janinec no. They wont have them.
If they are not showing on your online Dropbox account they are not available.
All my files in dropbox are not there anymore and they are also not in the deleted files section. I did not delete anything myself and am not sure what happened to cause this. I haven't had any ransomware detected by McAfee Livescan.
Hi @lx002, sorry to hear about that, let's jump right into this!
Is it possible that you opened a brand new Dropbox account, and that's why it's empty? Have you taken a look into your Events page, by any chance?
The Events page at www.dropbox.com/events gives you an overview of all activity in your account including files events (adds/edits/deletes), as well as adding or removing shared folders.
Let me know more on this!
Hi
I can see the events - and there are many. I just want all my files back and I can go through them and delete what I want to - as I did delete some but many were deleted that I did not consent to - nor did I ever consent to ANY of my files going into drop box in the first place. The terminology is hard to understand and we are not clearly advised what is happening when we first start using drop box. I only was lead to open it by the bank to open one zip file and then I turned around all all my files were in there and they are not easy to get back.
How can I get all my files back that drop box has ever had and then close my account?
kind regards
Hey Janine, you mentioned that you see the events.
Are you able to see the files in your events page? And does it mention that these files were deleted?
Do you see anything in your backups page?
Hi DP community,
I was linked to my previous company's DropBox account, and in being added into that account I could see both my personal files and the company's files. I left the company and when they deleted me from their DP, I am now with an empty personal DP, with no Deleted Files even to try to recover. Can someone advise what I can do?
Hi @clarkie, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
It sounds like you were deleted from a Dropbox Business team, meaning that your account was deleted.
In order to reactivate the account, if it hasn't been longer than 7 days since the account deletion, and if the admin hasn't transferred the files to another team member, they can follow these steps to restore it.
If you still need to leave the team (if that was the original intention), you can ask the team admin to convert your account back to a Basic plan.
Keep me updated with any progress!
Hi there! Thank you so much for responding so quickly! I actually just received a response from my company admin, and he is claiming I was registered under my company email. My admin also checked any deleted files and have found none of my personal.
Somehow my personal account was linked, I assume? Whenever I logged into Dropbox for work files, I was always able to see my personal as well. I also haven't changed my plan details in countless years now.
When logging in now, I have single one shared file in my entire box from a year ago, but everything else is gone from the last 10 years. Any further advice?
Hi @clarkie, if you were able to sign into the account, and saw both personal and work files, it all points out to you being part of a Business team.
Is it possible that you created a new account, or have a different account that you used to sign into Dropbox with?
Hmm. Okay.
I only had one account under one personal email for multiple years. I was invited into the Business account with my former company in 2020, and for the entire 2 years saw both personal and company files in one place. I never altered my personal account in any way and don't remember any sort of alert to merge into the business account (if that's a thing). I even tried logging out of my account (forgoing the option to sign in via Google) and logged in with my personal email and password, and still everything but the one single file is gone. I just reset my password right now, just in case there was somehow a second account or something, and still nothing.
Hi @clarkie, if you're not seeing the files, then it's like my colleague suggested, your old account was part of a Dropbox Business team. As you mentioned you saw both your personal and work files in one place, this could mean they were all on your company account.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful on this matter.
Hey @Kearcuri, sorry to hear about this.
Was the file saved to your Dropbox account or was it perhaps in a link that someone sent you?
Do you see any anything about this file in your events page here?
Thanks, @Kearcuri.
And did you take a look at your events page, to see if you can find any events related to that video?
Hey @Kearcuri, sorry to jump in here, but I wanted to ask; is it possible that you have another Dropbox account, associated with another email address of yours?
When is the last time you remember seeing this missing file in your account?
