I just started using Dropbox. I'm just looking to confirm that the correct number of files moved over from my computer.

Just select all files in a folder and you'll get the total number of items selected. For folder size, change one of the column headers to Size, select the folder, then click Calculate size from the menu on the right.
Normally the OS provides that information from your dropbox folder on your harddrive. Hover over the DB icon to see if it is "up to date".
I only have part of my Dropbox synced to my PC. Is there a way to tell how many files are in my Dropbox without first syncing everything to my PC?
(I'm just curious how many files are in there)

I'm bewildered that Dropbox doesn't tell users how many files there are in a folder, it sounds like such a simple thing to do, and extremely useful, and reassuring if we have the same number online compared to the hard drive. All other methods mentioned in this forum and others are such a hassle, and no, some users don't have all the equivalent files on their hard drive. Why doesn't Dropbox reply to these posts? Or even better, just fix it so we can see how many files there are.
DB does not share their 'roadmap' for new features, so you can keep your fingers crossed.
Think I just figured this out... or at least how to see how many files are in a given folder... within a folder it will show you just above the file-names how many files you have selected. So, if you select all files within the folder, that will tell you the total number... (to select all files, first select the file at the top of the list, hold down the shift key while you scroll to the bottom and select the very last file) Unfortunately I don't see a way of selecting multiple folders to determine the number of files... if I stumble on it I will post..
I have the same questions regarding verification of files and folders that are synced from my hard drive and Dropbox.com. With no way to tell they are or how many folders and files I have to compare how can I have confidence with this action. It does seem like a logical and simple task anyone would want to do.
Dropbox support if the worst for any programs or software I have ever used from day one. They must support their clients better. Please fix this Dropbox. You need and extra $20 a year....you can have it.......put a person on the phone. Otherwise you will see people move on to personal clouds.

Hi, i cant find the folder size and file count info for my folders online. Where can i see that? Should it not be visible in the folder tree on the login page?
I have to make a quick comparison between the files and folder on my PC and online to check if all files are uploaded or not.

Two points on this thread:
1. The link only addresses file size. Re folder size it just says it is not available to users. WHY it is not availble to users I cannot imagine. This is obviously an essential feature!
2. The link is out of date. File size used to be available as described there, but now it is not. So now file size is also withheld—proof Dropbox is doing this on purpose.
WHY would Dropbox withhold this? To dupe users into overpurchasing? This is terrible user treatment. Shame on you, Dropbox.
I am also bewildered such a basic functionality isn't there. It's so BASIC and so IMPERITIVE!!!!!! I would never have signed up if i had known it was so rubbish. How can anyone be sure everything has actually loaded...???

Things have changed in the 10 months since that post was originally made... you can now navigate to:

About midway down the page you should see the amount of space available in your Dropbox and the amount of space your files are using (both regular and shared files) It doesn't show a tally of the number of files though
Generally we suggest that associating the account with a desktop client will provide a much more granular experience for this, such as the Windows client, where you can see the entire Dropbox folder as, in general, a drive/folder itself, and get the exact file count.

Thank you, Rich, for this information. It was certainly not an intuitive find on the site, and it appears to be a partial solution at best. I followed the instructions and attempted to get the size information for several folders. Two smallish ones calculated size quickly. One larger one (58 Gb) took three minutes. Two more, one which shouldn't be very big at all and another which should be larger, are still calculating after over an hour.
Thank you for your reply, Rob, but it doesn't address my question. I know how to find the total space I'm using on Dropbox. I want to know the size of each folder. This information is of great value to me, especially when I'm looking at folders I have selectively chosen NOT to sync to my computer as a space-saving mechanism. That's one of the advantages of Dropbox, is it not? It's a mystery to me why this information should be difficult to provide, and I'm unhappy about not having it. Good grief, of course I know how to find the file or folder size when those items are on my computer!

I'm losing dropbox space that is an expiring promotion and I'm trying to compare the files I have backed up to what is in Dropbox before I delete them - and I can't even do a count.
The website feature that has supposedly been implemented DOES NOT WORK.
The other string on which this same issue is lamented has been "closed" because the moderator declared it to be solved. But it is NOT solved.
I can see only individual file sizes. The folder sizes are indicated as "--"

I am sorry to bash & complain about Dropbox. You were a friend once.
But maybe if you had ANY technical support, you would log onto your customers' machines remotely like every other tech company on earth does and see the things that DO NOT WORK.
Frankly I find it just rude beyond belief that you compel your "Professional version" customers to rely on crowd forums to deal with problems while you advertise incessantly about your new products and only give tech support (or do you even then?) to "Business" users.
I'm working to clean-up/organize my Dropbox account and want to use folders to group similar files, etc.
