Erroneous "Your Dropbox is full" message

I am getting a regular "Your Dropbox is full" pop-up - but I have plenty of space.

This 'appears' to have become a problem since I've added a Work dropbox - though that meay be a red herring.

I get the message despite my personal dropbox only showing 6.6GB of 8.88GB used and my work dropbox showing 300.7MB of 2GB used.

Drat. Was going to direct you to the thread for that official build, but, it doesnt exist!

My dropbox is nowhere near full I have more than 3.5GB free space (75.2% used). and I still constantly throughout the day get the "Your Dropbox is full, upgrade now" message. I have tried multiple times to install the latest version and reboot to no effect. This is a bug not a feature.

I'm also Dropbox basic...but last night when I used my desktop...no 'your dropbox is full' notifications. I think whatever "Ross S." has done 'server-side' has fixed my issues - but I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days to make sure it doesn't return.

Sorry @sherinikif you're still experiencing problems. Not sure what to suggest. Maybe Ross S. has some ideas for things you can try? You'll probably need to raise your own support ticket so that they have the details of the account you're still having problems with. If you do this and then post your ticket number here they will likely help you out.

Full disclosure: I'm just the messenger, they don't let me touch any of the shiny buttons and dials server-side...they tell me it's for my own safety.

Hey @sheinik,

Like I said, we had an issue affecting a group of Pro users. Looks like your issue is separate to this so I'd recommend reaching out to Support.

I'll give you a couple of Pro tips though:

No 1 cause of this is always that people are logged in to a different account, check that the email you use for the website is EXACTLY the same in every way as the one you're logged into on the client.

Next make sure your Dropbox folder is on your primary HDD with ur OS, when you reach out to Support tell them that you've done these checks to speed up the support process, also include a screenshot an the name of the machine ur on.

Hi,

I'm not a pro user, but my dropbox account genuinely became full a couple of weeks ago, which is where I got my first notification - correctly.

I then resolved the space issue immediately so I'm just over 50% usage, but every day since I've had the windows 10 notification telling me it's full.

Any other suggestions? I do have my dropbox files on my main hd (same as the OS)

Hey @pizzle1983, welcome to our forum!

Try unlinking your computer. Then, restart your PC and relink it. You’ll find this in our app’s preferences, under the Account tab.

I am with everyone else here.

This **bleep** pop-up is so annoying. It wouldnt be as bad if it just appeared for a few seconds like every other message. Not to just stay on the screen until removed.

I have used 25% of 3GB. Nothing is in the deleted items box on line either.

Re-installing the app does not clear this **bleep** message. Please sort it!

Why is this marked solved when everyone clearly states that the "Reinstall a stable release" advice does not solve the major issue described?

As I had mentioned above, this workaround may help users prevent this notification from popping up in some cases, though if this doesn't apply in your device and your account is well under quota, to further assist please log a ticket with our support team, so that we focus on that specific example. Once you write in to us, please let me know in your reply here, so that I look for your ticket internally.

Jane - Allow me as a user to "further clarify" - Your user base DOES NOT WANT these notifications. Whether under quota, over quota, exactly at quota etc... I think we've been pretty darn clear here.

I'd gladly share my support tickets from months ago where Drop Box basically told me to f' off that they weren't going to do a thing about it, but they must have expired.

So guess what - I f'd off and I no longer use your service. Due to this one issue. We should not have to open support tickets about this - but if we DO in fact open tickets, it's in your best interest as a company to actually solve them, lest you lose your users.

Stop annoying the *$*#($ out of your user base by sending notifications. I don't care what version of the app is installed on what device. Just stop doing it period. From your end. With no further effort by the user. It's terrible, terrible design and it's not up to me as a user to fix your product. It's up to your designers to not be god-awful.

Oh wait, here's my tickets:

#5531845 marked solved without even a single response from Drop Box support.

#5547274 marked solved where first someone referenced clicking on things in prefrences that don't exist - and when I responsded with screen shots asking for clarification, and this ticket was closed marked solved with no resolution - I reopened it and was told "they're working on it" and had it closed again.

#5589304 where I was told that if I didn't want to see the message again my only options were upgrading or deleting stuff but that despite what I was told in #5547274 nobody was working on anything, it's working as designed and they wouldn't be turning that function off. In this conversation your rep basically repeated, nearly word for word, the message of the quota notification as if that was the solution. "Hey, if you don't want to see the message anymore, you can 1. Delete some files, 2. Upgrade" Uh, thanks?!

By the way - to be clear here - my account is not and was not over quota. And I mentioned that at the time.

And your reps didn't give a %&*(). So... as I said above, due to this one situation I am no longer a dropbox user.

Yeah, that's pretty much how Dropbox "support" has treated me. Lies, contempt, and silence. It must be part of their training.

Using 30.4.22:

I've uninstalled and reinstalled 30.4.22 following the steps in the previous post. Still getting the popup 'Your Dropbox is full'. My account shows 38.6% used of 2.2GB.

Had already logged the support request on 11 July, it was answered on 14 July (weekend) so was able to try it on 18 July and after a further two days I am confident it has resolved the issue.

It was necessary to unlink then relink the machine to the Dropbox account - now I'd have assumed that would have been accomplished when uninstalling and reinstalling but it seems not - go figure.

But no more annoying message.

It appears that the re-installation workaround worked in my particular case. But are we saying that any time I go over the limit and then back under again that I will need to re-install the program? If so, that seems awfully disappointing.

Hi All, i'm getting that my dropbox account its almost full, after delete a lot of information in my PC Explorer, just leave 1.5GB of Data ad already sync, but Login in my web account i found that still me showing 4.5G of 5GB used, so in web account shows me more data used than in my pc explorer. I deleted cache file and permanent delete option, is there other way to check whats is using my space?

How did you delete them on your computer? When you deleted them on the computer they should also delete on the website - did that happen?

Or, did you use Selective Sync which just stops syncing to that local device, but, does not stop it being in your account etc.

As a first step, please try unlinking your account to the website, rebooting once and then relinking.

If this persists, a fresh re-installation will probably help you resolve that.

This is so ridiculous. I can't believe the drop-box team isn't smarter than this. I just installed Google drive desktop client instead: Problem solved.

I have also uninstalled it everywhere as well.

Will soon be stearing the company away from it now as we cannot aford this sort of behaviour for company reliant files.

Have moved to Sync.com. Much better.

Hi. When turn on my computer I always get the message (Windows 10 notification) that my dropbox is full and I should upgrade.

Currently my Dropbox is only 62.4% full, since I deleted stuff because of the error message.

But it won't disappear. I even reinstalled Windows, but the message stays.

System info: Windows 10 Home x64, Dropbox Version 30.4.22

The following steps solved this issue for me:

1. Unlink account

2. Reboot

3. Uninstall Dropbox

4. Reboot

5. Reinstall Dropbox

6. Relink account
