Is there anyway to recover an account that has been deleted?
There's likely no way to recover the files. You deleted the account, so all files and history in that account were likely deleted as well. All you can really do is open a ticket and ask Support.

Replies take approximately 1 - 3 business days with Pro users getting priority (longer for Basic users).

If you deleted the account or it if was deleted due to inactivity, no, it cannot be recovered. If the account was part of a Business team and deleted within the last 7 days, the team admin might be able to restore it.
The Dropbox support team managed to find a solution and sorted the issue!
I'm happy that I got my files back! Thank you everyone!
I cant make any guarantees But Business accounts generally have unlimited file recovery, so...
Will like to reactivate my Dropbox, cannot tell why it went off when I have been using it all the time.
As has been said they cannot be reactivated.
please i need to reactive my old e-mail
Wie reaktiviere ich mein altes Konto wieder?
If you have deleted or cancelled your dropbox account then a mirror image of all your files should still be sitting on your c drive under documents. I recently closed my account and then discovered I had missed a folder in my backup but went to the c drive documents folder under users etc and all the files were still there. Good luck
DANGER! DO NOT JOIN ANOTHER COMPANY'S TEAM!
Recently all warnings have disappeared from the onboarding process - today my wife's account was deleted when she was asked to join the team dropbox from another company - she has lost all her drop box files and her own account was deleted with no warnings at all! Please reinstate the warnings that all your own business files will be deleted if you join another company's team!
Ian, in that scenario, the business team admin can contact support and ask to have the account restored. It's not the same situation as a regular account being canceled or deleted.
It may be possible for the other Company's admin to re-instate our account - but then I suspect that this other company, who is both a client and a competitor (depending on the project) will have access to all our IP, some of our financial records, some of our private photos and most of our client's files, which obviously is not acceptable and in breach of every confidentiality agreement we have ever signed. I think all we can do is back up the local copy of our files (if they have not self deleted in a sync) and start a new account (which we will be reticent to use now for any sensitive information). We will then need to get our lawyers to make it clear to the other company that they are not to re-instate this account under any circumstances.
PLEASE ADD CLEARER WARNINGS FOR THIS ISSUE! (for when people are joining a third party's team dropbox)
hi in accidently got deleted my oled drop box photos , can you please help me to recover those photos
Hi how to recover an inactive account. My phone was lost due to which i couldn't sign in my google and reset my dropbox account this made my account inactive. How can i recover my inactive account. I've already raised tickets.
I think Dropbox needs a visit from Federal Trade Commission over this issue. How is God's green Earth can I have a paid account that gets cancelled by ONE VERY UNCLEAR CLICK OF A BUTTON to join a team folder????? Is this a scam, Dropbox???? Do you REALLY care about your customers???? Wedding pictures, private data, years of portfolio work and writing ... all lost?????? And cancelling my Pro account???????? Come on, Dropbox. You can do far better than this.
You are repeatedly warned about joining a Dropbox Business account - infact it almost forces you to set up a new account to join said team - because, as a minimum, as it says 'your Pro account will become a credit towards the Business Account'. It does not just happen by magic.
If you've ignored that, I'm afraid, its your own fault.
However, joining said business account does not delete any data. It simply becomes part of the Team.
Actually, NO. I was NOT REPEATEDLY warned. Do you work for Dropbox?
No I dont. I'm simply a paying Pro user.
But I have set up a Business Account and in the on boarding you are told, repeatedly, what will happen and how to avoid it.
Well, good thing you don't work for Dropbox because your bedside manner is awful. What you are missing in this "chat" is that I did not set up a business account.
You said you joined a Team account - that is exactly the same as a Business one.
I gave up on Dropbox because of this problem. It's so frustrating that my Business account and Personal account got linked.... It's even more frustrating that I received an email on my business account that it was inactive. So when I followed the email link they provided to close the business account it closed both... I used the personal account all the time so if they were linked I should've never received the inactivity email. This process makes no sense.
This happened to me today and the administrator of the team account is not being cooperative. I've had my account with DropBox for years and now nothing. Clearly since all these people are posting about the same issues, the warnings are not clear. This absolutely needs to be changed. I've lost 100s of files that I use for my work! It's frustrating.
Same issue here. The issue is apparently deaf to the resident "Super User's" ears. I am an intelligent person. The Dropbox process is confusing and frankly the wording is misrepresenting what actually takes place.
I lost control of my confidential files. The "admin" deleted my account and now suppport is in the process of restoring my account to its original state.
We have been warning all users not to use Dropbox until this "feature" is eliminated due to phishing risks. I would recommend transferring your files to a different service in the meanwhile.
This is a known IT security risk.
@Einaphets wrote:I never received an email warning me that my account would be deleted. They advertise that your photos are safe here. It is complete ******. And now you are saying the send an email to reactivate your account is ******? This is a total scam! I have now lost photos of my children that I will never be able to retrieve and there is NO customer service? This is an awful product and I warn people against using it!!!
I don't know when you wrote your email....but I feel the same way as you. Dropbox deleted my account too where I had pictures of my children and parents (my dad now deceased). I would give anything to get them back. The email they sent notices too, I never used.....I didn't know that you had to go in all the time to keep it activated. I to thought my pictures were safe. I'm furious and would cry if I knew it would bring back my lost photos. Please is there anything that anyone can do at Dropbox?
emilynielsen wrote:That is why I got this E-mail from the Dropbox team telling me otherwise...???? What explains this???
That doesn't say anything about reactivating an account. It mentions help recovering files. If the account was recently deactivated then they might be able to help recover some files.
Also, their policy or methods could have changed. The original post for this question was made nearly two years ago, and the follow-ups that have been answered since then were done so with the information available at the time. Only way to know if it can be done is to ask them as no one here on this user-supported forum can assist with this. You need to talk to Support at the email address they gave you.
Hey @emilynielsen,
Thanks for getting in touch with us on Community!
Please note that if your password has expired, we can help you with that through our Support channel. Would you mind writing in to us, briefly describing the case and letting me know a ticket ID in your reply, so that I look into it?
Thank you in advance, looking forward to your reply!
Kind regards,

I faced the same issue today.
This is really bad. whats the use of dropbox being cloud storage when they want to delete our accounts. The mail of reminder was sent but being out of country for few months I wasnt able to open my dropbox.
And the account I am unable to recover.
Alert should have been given to mobile numbers for deletion of accounts. THis is realllllllllllllllllllyyy bad part of dropbox. I would now never use dropbox. THe worst of it. There are many other cloud storages. I better delete all my files and accounts from this worst platform,
Your accounts are only deleted after many months (12+) of inactivity and at least 3 months of emails to say its going to happen. That to be fair is not unrealistic and it is something that you agree to via the T&C's when joining.
There is, now, a small window to say 'recover' this account by rejoining with the same email. I believe though its only 7 days or so after it was deleted.
