Longtime user but being prompted to finish setting up my account.

I am a longtime Dropbox user. I have had an basic level account for 10+ years. I rarely use it these days. It looks like I last used Dropbox in September 2024. Today, I received an email from Dropbox advising me to finish setting up my account. The message advised me to create my first folder. I have created many folders over the years. It advised me to verify my email address. I did this many years ago and did so again today. It also advised me to connect the mobile app. I have used the mobile app many times over the years. So I opened the app on my phone. I received an offer to try Dropbox free for 30 days.

My files and folders show up when I visit the website via my desktop PC. I'm unsure how to proceed or what to do. Any advice is appreciated.

From your description of the issue, it sounds like you might have a second Dropbox account, but let's investigate to confirm if that's the case.

Can you check your account settings on the Dropbox website from your PC and the "account" tab in the Dropbox mobile app to compare the email address you see there to the one you received that email to? The one about finishing setting up your account, I mean.

Is it the exact same email address?

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Thanks for your reply. I checked my account settings. It shows my correct email address. I only have one email account. I believe I only have one Dropbox account. I've had the same email address (gmail) for 20+ years. I received the email message from Dropbox at that address yesterday.

The email looks to be coming from an official Dropbox domain.

This email may be a false alarm. Since you confirmed you do not have a second account linked to another email address, you can safely ignore the message.
