I use Dropbox on two Macs - an M4 MacBook Pro and an M4 iMac (both 2024). Recently I migrated everything from an older Intel iMac to the M4. There was some trouble with the Dropbox migration - no idea what - but afterward the new iMac showed 305GB more usage than the old one had. It turns out there's a folder called "instance3" inside the invisible .dropbox folder at /Users/myname that contains a folder called "dfc" with nearly 500 sub-folders, all containing copies of various of the folders I use Dropbox for. In many cases there are duplicates as my "normal" Dropbox has 89 folders. (Shot #1 - it looks like this post will only allow one image so I hope things are clear.) Shot #2 shows the folder structure inside ".dropbox" on the new iMac. Shot #3 shows the folder structure inside the matching ".dropbox" folder on the MacBook. The MacBook lists only an "instance1" while the iMac shows 3 "instance" folders - and it's "instance3" that has the 300+GB bloat. My question: how can I recover that storage (in other words, how do I get the iMac .dropbox folder back in line with the way it was before the migration? Apologies in advance for the wordiness, and thanks in advance for the help.
