I received a Dropbox notification saying my folder is going to expire. What does that mean?

I don't understand much about Dropbox, and it is virtually impossible to get answers, but....Does Dropbox sometimes remove files from your folder without your request or permission? Just now, I received the following message: 1 day until expiration for Annette Hanshaw's RECORDINGS

(1926-1934).

Does that mean that Dropbox is going to remove a folder that I have put there? Why? What can I do? (4/27/25;8:41 AM PST)

No it doesnt.

There is 2 exceptions though - if you are over quota consistently they will delete files to bring you under OR you do not use the account for 12 months they will remove data for inactivity. However, both are after LOTS of warnings.

If you read the full message, or click on the notification it will tell you exactly what it is. It is either a link or a transfer of files that has an expiration date on it. That is what is expiring.

I still don't understand. When and why do my postings expire? I have seen such messages for years, but I usually am unable to contact Dropbox for an explanation; however, I think I have FINALLY found the place to find answers. Hallelujah! (4/27/25; 11:01 AM PST)

Have you clicked on the notification to see what it relates to?

Its almost certainly EITHER a Transfer (http://www.dropbox.com/transfers) or a Link (http://www.dropbox.com/links )

Well, I've seen the same message many times over the years, but since I've always found it impossible to get answers from Dropbox, I didn't/couldn't receive any explanation. This time, I seem to be getting closer to answers to my questions. I would really like an operating manual for Dropbox. Is there such a thing? (4/27/25; 11:32 AM, PST)

Thanks for your help, but I'll have to give up here, as I have done with Dropbox for many years. I guess I'll just have to move all my files in Dropbox to an easier/friendlier site. I started to do it before, but it was too big a job. Now, I have no choice. Maybe I'll pay someone to do it for me. (Sun April 27. 2025; 12:03 PM)

Just to confirm, again, that Dropbox does not expire files. They are not removed. There is no such thing as 'expiring files' as I said - your other post I've killed off so things dont get complicated.

Except, as I said above, files are only removed if you are over quota or inactive. But after warning.

As I said before the file isnt its the link or the transfer.

Files do not expire.

I posted the URL's for you to see what transfers and links you have so you can see them, or, if you click on the notification you received it will take you to it and tell you what it is.
