I can find a file uploaded to a sharing link

I need to receive a file which is too large to be sent via email. So, I created a folder and sent the author of the file a 'sharing link' so the could upload the file into my new folder - I have lots of space for the file. They used the link to access the folder, and they see a file which I place in the folder so they could verify that they were in the correct place.
My friend uploaded the file, Word document, and said that Dropbox confirmed that the file was uploaded. Yet, when I go to my folder their file is not in the folder. I also confirmed that they have 'can edit' access to the folder.

Any idea's why the file is not in the folder when I look at the folder?

Are you viewing this folder on the Dropbox site, or via your local machine?

Could you clarify exactly what kind of 'sharing link' you sent to the person? Was it a file request link?

Hi Jay, not certain I understand your first question completely. I don't know what you mean by "via your local machine". But, I access DropBox via my Chrome browser from my Windows 10 system.

I then used the 'chain link' icon to the left of the blue box "share folder". This gave me a URL which I copied and sent to my friend via email.

When I click his initials which are to the right of mine I see that he has "Can edit" status.

Is it possible that your friend added this folder to their Dropbox account instead as a shared folder?

Did they upload the file you mention in this folder via the Dropbox website, as well? If they open the folder on www.dropbox.com, can they see the file they added?

Hi Nancy,

They used the Dropbox generated link from an email I sent to access the folder. When they were in Dropbox they did see a file which I had placed in the folder, which I created, as a way to verify they were in the correct folder.

So, I have every reason to believe they were in MY shared folder.
Although Dropbox said it had uploaded the file, they indicated that they did not see the file.

Are there any specific questions that I could pass along to them? Possibly their answers might provide something more specific to assist with identifying the problem. Also, I don't believe they have a Dropbox account.

Hey @aksmith141 - sorry to jump in here, but I just wanted to mention that it wouldn't be possible for them to upload to your shared folder without a Dropbox account.

Do you or your friend see any signs of the missing file in your events page?
