Dropbox stating that I have a 2GB plan and I need to upgrade to a bigger plan.

I have had my Dropbox account with 9.5GB plan of storage for around 10 years, lately I'm getting hounded by Dropbox stating that I have a 2GB plan and I need to upgrade to a bigger plan.

Everything works accordingly for me as long as I keep below 9.5GB.

My hunch is that they used to have a free 9.5GB plan which has been scrapped to 2GB so now people like me still using the 9.5GB plan are getting hounded???

Is anyone else having this problem?

Dropbox didnt, and never ever, had a 9.5gb plan. To get that much space it has to have been earned via referrals etc.

What space is showing if you go to https://www.dropbox.com/account/referrals or clicking on the little icon at the top right of the page at www.dropbox.com/home

Thanks for the reply.

Dropbox may not have had a 9.5GB plan available to all but I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, it came with a Dropbox offer so I signed up and joined which is the 9.5GB plan I'm still on and using.

This is what is displayed at the top right of the page at www.dropbox.com/home

"Using 4.72 GB of 9.5 GB storage"

All Samsung plans are only temporary so at some point the bonus space will go.

However, Dropbox does send emails out when you are close to quota limits, but, as long as you stay under you are fine 🙂

Where do you get the 2GB info? Did you receive any relevant emails from Dropbox?

Could you attach a screenshot showing your quota on the plan page in order to see the current total?

Hi Megan

I got the 2GB info from the Dropbox tray icon notification bell icon stating I only have or are on the 2GB plan, can't remember exactly have deleted that notification.

In the screenshot it states I have 9.5GB of space to use and it's promoting me to upgrade to 2GB of space, well in my books that's a downgrade.

What is up with your system???

Hey @brett11, if you've made sure that you have the same Dropbox account linked to your Dropbox desktop app, as on the website, this might have been just a promotional notification.

You can simply ignore it and I will also make sure to pass your feedback along to our team.

I have the same problem also being hounded by Dropbox whit 2 GB plan, I have earned 8,38 GB many years ago, now I’m hounded every day about the 2 GB.

I’m afraid losing my saved files, so must backup to my PC, if Dropbox decides to delete them 😳😠

Is it possible to send me a screenshot of the prompt you got?

In any case, if you've made sure that your files are backed up to Dropbox and you have enough space available in your account, your files are safe, so no need to worry about that.

But I'd like to look into this for you, if you can send me the screenshot.
